Formerly the Amber Hotel, this was taken over by Plaza Inn in August (2023). It is on the edge of the large city park which is well laid out with sculptures, gym equipment, playgrounds, paths and a fountain with stream and very near the Leo (shopping) Centre. My room was on the 6th floor, really clean, quiet and comfortable though a little tired. The bathroom had the usual complementaries. German hotels only provide a bottle of water in the room and not tea and coffee making facilities nor a fridge. You won't find many cafes open nearby on a Sunday, and those that do, open after 10am. So, I took the hotel breakfast at 12 Euros which was an eat-as-much-as-you-want buffet that included scrambled and boiled eggs, bacon and hash browns as well as a selection of cereals, breads, fruit, cheese and cold meats with tea and coffee from a machine. It was worth the money as it started early (6.30am) and I could sit there as long as I wanted. The staff were really friendly throughout the hotel and the Reception staff spoke fluent English. I was told that the hotel was being refurbished over winter and bedrooms would be updated. The only slight niggle was that the window, when open at a tilt, rattled in the wind and there were building works over the road which were out of the control of the hotel, but meant that the window had to be closed when I was in the room. I found this hotel good value for a couple of nights, but if the price is increased after the planned updating, it might be more viable to go to a local Gasthaus.
