I stayed in a western-style double room. The hotel is in a beautiful area convenient to Arashiyama Park and the bamboo way. It’s a short walk to Arashiyama station. On check in most of the front end staff spoke English and explained the hotel with some hotel literature in English. If meals are included they are served at the in house restaurant. The front end staff will provide a ticket and reservation window for you to show up and you claim new tickets each day you are entitled to a meal. Unfortunately most of the restaurant staff did not speak any English and the menus are in Japanese so those with limited Japanese may have some difficulty. Meals are kaiseki-style and I really enjoyed dinner on both nights I stayed. Breakfast consists of a combination of Japanese served dishes and buffet. The room was a good size for Japan and includes a private shower for those who don’t wish to venture to the onsen. The public bath was standard to most public baths I’ve been to. What was strange was I couldn’t find a thermostat of any sort so my only options were warm a/c or open window. There’s a small garden in the middle of the hotel however it’s nothing special when compared to the surrounding areas which are definitely worth a stroll through. Note that they have large size yukata if the standard does not fit. I am 183cm/6 ft tall and I appreciated the staff being proactive about offering the large size. Considering the price I paid for the room and half board I had a good time. Arashiyama is definitely worth a night or 2 for visitors and I would definitely consider Ranzan for the budget-minded traveler looking for a ryokan experience in Arashiyama.

We spent one night in Muni after careful research for our anniversary trip to Japan. Several Japanese You-tubers and reviews had high marks and they did not disappoint. It is located few steps from the famous Arabica coffee shop and very easy access to Togetsu bridge. There are lots of folks walking by the river, but noise is not concern at all as the soothing noise of the water from the garden erases them. We stayed on the second floor, and it had amazing view. We could see the bridge on left and Arashiyama on the right. It was very relaxing to soak in the atmosphere out on the balcony. Room was spacious and clean with some modern touch. It was really good to rest a little after the hustle and bustle in the bigger cities. Hotel service was excellent. The gentleman in the front was very professional and attentive. We opted to try some authentic Izakaya and he booked us a perfect place despite my husband's minimal and rather confusing request. Breakfast was arranged at Muni La Terrasse with a same view, but closer to the river. Food was excellent, of course. Overall, I would not categorize Muni as an inexpensive accommodation, but it absolutely met our expectation. Only regret maybe that we did not book multiple nights!
I stayed there with my husband for two nights, which turned out to be one of our best stays we experienced in our lives. To be honest, we have traveled the world in luxury in our lives. But our stay at Togetsutei was unforgettable. The culture of Omotenashi (service beyond expected as business), Kaisei food and convenient location! Onsen (big bath house) was very nice, too. Usually, there’s only one/two people bathing. Meal itself will justify the $$ for lodging. Go visit Japan while strong $ lasts. Thank you Togetsutei!!!
I and my mother stayed there for one night 20000 yen per person, with dinner and breakfast. It was a very comfortable stay. This was more like a hotel, except that we needed to walk around without your own shoes (without getting dirty feet) inside. It was fully booked on that day. We had an earlier check-in, which mean that we could enjoy our relaxing private Onsen bath without standing in line. We also tried the large onsen baths later in the evening after a long walk in the beautiful Arashiyama area nearby. It was hot, but great. One of the baths was outside in a Japanese garden. We got warmed up from the inside out, and had an ice popsicle before we went up to our room for good nights rest. We also enjoyed a huge dinner and breakfast, true local cuisine with typical taste in Kyoto that supposed to be refined and ”delicate” - you shouldn´t expect any strong taste, and correctly cooked. This supposed to be a 3-star-hotel, but the amenity was completed. We didn´t miss anything here. We thought the staff at the front desk were not amazing, but definitely not poor. We didn´t need to deal with them so much as we had good information in written form. Everything was clean and pleasant. Had absolutely nothing to complain. We would definitely love to come back again. My rating is 4 - not more or less. I certainly see that they still have a room for improvement, but overall I didn´t personally understand all the poor reviews.
訪訪客I’ve booked for two nights in this hotel. Everything is almost perfect in the first night. The location is good, nearby the train station, a 24hr familymart in 2min walkable distance. The non-contact check in requested by the hotel through email is smooth and im okay with this arrangement. The instructions in the email are clear enough and i had successfully found the hotel and got into the room. It did look like perfect but something terrible happened in the second night. I came back to the hotel at 8:49pm and found i could not enter the room because the password was wrong. I entered exactly the same password which did work at the first night. Ive tries so many times slowly and clearly to confirm its not my mistakes if i had enter wrong password. After many times of wrong entering, the electronic lock was locked for trying. I was so desperate and sending email to the hotel asking for help, as my phone had only internet service but no phone call. Of course there was no any reply even till now, which is extremely ridiculous. Then I walked to the familymart trying to ask for help. Luckily there was three locals in the shop and one of them could speak english, they helped me calling to the hotel number instructed in the email , saying that is a 24hr number for emergency need and no one answered :) Then we google the hotel and find another number, then a japanese local answered. After communication with the staff, the three locals go to the hotel with us( they were super super friendly and helpful, thank you very much), trying to unlock the door by following the steps told by the staff in the phone, yet the door was still locked. Then the staff asked we to wait for 10 mins and someone will come. The 3 locals waited with us( AGAIN, THEY WERE EXTREMELY FRIENDLY, i cant imagine how would it end up that night without their help) Then the staff came and took only 2 seconds unlocking the door, I watched with my eyes that he did not enter the password I was given but another one, he did exactly know what was the right password. What the f was happening? Why the Password was changed? Who did that? Ive paid for two night! After opening the door, the staff just continually saying sorry and not answering my question. EVEN TILL NOW, i dont get any reply from the hotel, explaining what happened that night, it is the most ridiculous and terrible experience i ever had in my life.
