I booked a king size room at the Queens Head because on the website the pictures of the rooms looked nice and also the reviews regarding food were good. Two days before travelling we had to rearrange to the following week I rang the hotel and asked for my booking to be transferred I had checked the website and the same room was available. I was told I would get confirmation from Penny the owner. Four days later I still had not received confirmation so I rang again and spoke to a lady who was the new manager and was told yes Penny had transferred the booking and Uighur would definitely receive confirmation. On arrival it was clear why I had not received confirmation the room allocated was the smallest room imaginable 4 floors up in the attic with twin beds, no room for any seating you needed a ladder to see out of the only skylight window and I was charged only £3 less than the price of the king size room. I went back down to see the manager and was told there were no other rooms as they were fully booked (but there had been rooms available when I altered the booking) Oh and there was no food that evening as she had no chef! Could this stay get any worse. The new manager was lovely but even her pleasant personality could not make up for this disastrous stay.

We stopped for Sunday lunch as we were in the area. Staff sat us at our table and took our drinks order. We waited 15 minutes ( only 3 tables eating at the time who had all been served) still didn’t receive our drinks, we ended up asking to order food and to receive our drinks. The food was average, the cauliflower cheese was obviously from frozen. It was swimming in water in the bowl it was served in. The beef wasn’t the best. Never got asked whether or not our food was good at all. Seems as though the waitresses and waiters don’t communicate with one another.

Pros: Car park - free Friendly Staff - always helpful Breakfast - tasty Cons: Room - it was dusty in places, one window was open which meant traffic could be heard (although we didn't try to shut it, there was a cobweb over the gap), the radiator must have been broken as it was way too hot (we tried turning it down), therefore we needed the window open! The carpet was coming up near the entrance to the bathroom and the door kept catching on it. The paint was peeling near the door frame. The shower had hardly any pressure and the temperature wasn't always easy to control. When my partner went in first, he said there was a hair in it. On the surface, the room appeared nice, but unfortunately it was just the surface. We didn't sleep well because of the heat of the room and then the noise from outside in the morning. Dinner Availability: We were told when we first got there, that because of Christmas, they had forgotten to do a food order and therefore some things were not available. We were then given alternative places to eat. We didn't try to eat our dinners there, but just thought it was worth pointing out as it's not something that gives a good first impression. This place has a lot of potential, but unfortunately at the moment it doesn't live up to it.

Had a really enjoyable family meal here last Saturday night. The young lady that was serving us (sorry I didn’t catch your name) was so lovely, thank you for your fabulous service! We enjoyed a main meal each and of course had to have a dessert! The food was tremendous. A very enjoyable evening, we will definitely be returning here soon for food.

Warm welcome from friendly staff, comfy bed in a large, well appointed room. Walls and curtains needed a dusting though. Food ranged from delicious (evening mains and pud) to barely ok (breakfast, no tea, no welcome, longlife OJ, poorly cooked).

We visited the Queens to sample the new summer menu and was highly impressed. There's a really good selection to suit all tastes, the food was lovely and cooked perfectly. The service from the staff was fantastic, they couldn't do enough for you. On top of all this, the midweek offer is great value for money, highly recommended.
