We recently stayed at a local air b&b and wanted somewhere convenient for dinner. We popped into Kirkudbright and came across this lovely blue building. We weren't sure about going in first as we had two children, and although they are not allowed in the bar area, they are more than welcome in the restaurant. The service was wonderful, we felt very welcome and the food was beautiful, so fresh and beautifully presented. We were so impressed that we came back for Sunday lunch. Prices are very reasonable.

This pub looks fairly traditional from the outside, but is a hidden gem. The bar is tiny, but beyond is the snug which is very cosy, then beyond is the restaurant which serves food like you wouldn't expect. Friendly locals in the bar, friendly service throughout and excellent (better than pub grub) food. Highly recommend you give it a visit.

This is a small traditional styled place offering a few rooms above the bar and dining area so steps lead to the accommodation and rule it out for those needing accessible accommodation. I doubt if any of the rooms offer views of the Bay since it is located in the centre of town however ours did overlook a monument to James Dunbar, Earl of Selkirk and a small park. Attractions like the castle and galleries are within a few minutes walk. Parking was on the street as near to the hotel as we could manage, in what for Kirkcudbright, is a busy spot. That said we didn’t experience any traffic or noise disturbance during our overnight stay, despite being directly above the hotel’s cozy little bar and our visit coinciding with the Spring Fling artists event. From the exterior it didn’t look too promising on arrival that there was scaffolding in place on the building however there wasn’t work going on that caused any inconvenience to us. There is no reception as such however staff have access to allow them to cover both the public bar and the lounge/restaurant area at the rear of the property where we checked-in. Payment was taken at that point so we were hopeful that the room would be okay! We were in the “Deluxe King Room” (room 1) up one flight of stairs. The room was very large and consisted of a sitting area with a large wall mounted television, a comfortable king sized bed, a large old style free-standing wardrobe and a dressing table and chair. The tub chairs had stretch coverings and when my wife adjusted these a load of fluff fell out onto the floor - presumably they must have missed the routine cleaning for a while! Most importantly the bedding looked clean and good quality. There were a couple of large sash windows overlooking the front of the building and much to my surprise these operated easily. (It is often the case with older properties that the windows are jammed shut with paint). Light and fresh air are always a bonus. The ensuite had a shower with screen over the bath and the water pressure was fine. The frosted glass window and extractor fan looked as if they had seen better days yet the washbasin was a modern design. I got the impression that improvements were likely a work in progress. Overall the room was comfortable and certainly spacious. We had coffee with biscuits and later also brought drinks up from the bar whilst watching TV and it was relaxing. We slept well. Breakfast was served in the lounge/conservatory and the owner was on hand to prepare this to order. He was a friendly guy and the breakfast provided was very good. For us that consisted of porridge with fruit, followed by a full Scottish (less haggis for me) and scrambled eggs with bacon for my wife. Tea and coffee with toast was freshly made with brown and white bread as requested. The ingredients were all nicely cooked and of good quality. We enjoyed our breakfast better here than the previous day at the nearby Selkirk Arms Hotel. Provide

Small, very friendly hotel. Good town centre location with free parking right outside. Good breakfast and a very friendly bar, well used by locals as well as guests. We were the only English on the night that England were playing Netherlands in the Euros - lots of good natured banter. Very pleasant, clean rooms and a decent breakfast.

Nish, Lisa and your customers, I'm so so truly grateful for your kindness, I'm currently walking the entire UK coast path solo for the RNLI and I walked 13 miles with my huge pack in this heat today, I am so truly truly grateful as you can see on this video of your STUPENDOUS BEAUTIFUL TOWN❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️🦄🌈 Excellent customer service, friendly, clean, great atmosphere food is awesome, rooms fabulous fully recommend this wonderful hotel amd asset to the Kirkcudbright community . We really loved our stay here. Staff really friendly and loved our room with the little lounge area (with fridge and kettle) in addition to bedroom. I sat with the chair in front of the window looking out which was lovely. We went for a drink in the evening downstairs which included chatting to some of the lively locals. Breakfast was great too. We would definitely stay here again and really fell in love with Kirkcudbright.
