Nice hotel in the middle of Keswick. Arrived early and looked after well by Dan on reception, he was very helpful and told us our room was ready early. Room clean and tidy but a little dated and needing a couple of touch ups in the bathroom. Breakfast fine with plenty of choice. would stay again.

This review comes after our second stay at the Skiddaw hotel, and I expect it will be our last. On this stay, we were put in a room directly above a party going on underneath us. Now, that wouldn't bother us if the walls weren't paper thin, but we could hear every single word of the conversation in the room next door to us (and everything else besides), so being expected to sleep above a party going on into the small hours was ridiculous. We went down and spoke to the desk who said that we should have received an email the week before about it - we didn't, but I'm not sure how helpful that would have been anyway. We eventually asked to be moved room, which seemed to really put out the lad on the desk. Thankfully, a young blonde-haired lady took over from him and she was much more helpful and seemed to have a better idea of what was going on. She moved us up to the third floor on the opposite side of the hotel. Peace at last... Breakfast was disappointing. I've never seen scrambled egg so closely resemble vomit before. More seriously, I also witnessed the gentleman who takes the orders (older guy, red cheeks) assault another member of staff by smacking him with a menu, apparently to tell this staff member that he needed to set a table. Not sure why he couldn't have used his words rather than hit him. I'm also genuinely a bit horrified that this behaviour takes place right in front of guests! We received a refund of £47 to 'make up' for a disturbed stay at the hotel, but I'm afraid this doesn't incentivise us to stay again, or write a positive review. Besides the poor night's sleep, we just cannot support a business which allows this physically aggressive behaviour towards staff members.

My wife and I have stayed in the Skidaw several times over the last few years and always enjoyed the experience, so we were happy to stay there for one night on our return trip from Scotland on 14th July. Room was fine and all seemed well until we went up to bed in the evening. Directly below our room some event was taking place with what seems like disco music playing so loud that our room was literally vibrating (not and exaggeration) this went on until just after midnight and destroyed any chance of a good nights sleep. His totally ruined our stay and If we had had the least idea that this would happen we would certainly not have booked this hotel. Next day we complained but were told that they did not know the music was going to be so loud and go on sol long so they could only apologise. I sent an email describing the problem and our disappointment, on 30th July but so far no reply or acknowledgment from the hotel, will be looking at the alternatives for our next stay.

Stayed at the Skiddaw on 10th, 11th and 12th of August 2023, some staff were excellent. The only one I wasn't happy with was George, I think he needs some training. On leaving the hotel our bill was wrong, we were charged for a meal we'd never had, when I questioned this no explanation was offered just told there was no signature, payment was put back on my card with no apology or an offer that he would look into how it happened. During our stay my wife heard him speaking badly to other staff, if she could hear this that is very unprofessional.

With this hotel being in the centre of Keswick you would expect to pay a bit more but... The 'double' room was very small, literally room for one person to move at a time, grubby dated carpet. the bathroom tiny.

Wanted a good meal but the place was over run by children that were out of control and the parents were not bothered and shouting themselves. Not the best experience we have had in this hotel as we have stayed here many times before.
