卡斯特霍夫提胡奇飯店

Een bezoek aan de Westhoek stond al jaren op ons programma en toen we hotels gingen zoeken kwamen we al gauw hier terecht omdat in Ieper het parkeren lastiger is. Deze keuze hebben wij niet betreurd. het is een alleraardigst familiehotel gelegen op ongeveer 5 km van Ieper en omringd door loopgraven, begraafplaatsen en andere artefacten uit de eerste wereldoorlog, hier in België ruim 100 jaar na dato nog steeds de grote oorlog genoemd. Het verleden is voelbaar en dat is fascinerend. De kamers zijn ruim en comfortabel en het ontbijt is prima op orde. De prijs-kwaliteitsverhouding is zonder meer goed. Heel handig op het platteland is dat er een restaurant aanwezig is zodat je niet gedwongen wordt om naar Ieper te rijden. Er wordt degelijk gekookt maar wat wij van de restaurants in het algemeen in deze regio als ervaring meekregen is erg traditioneel en bovendien zijn ze ook (nog) niet op vegetarisch koken ingesteld. Mijn vegetarische echtgenote heeft overigens goed gegeten, maar een beetje druk was nodig. Het is een uiterst plezierig hotel en de medewerkers zijn vriendelijk en voorkomend. De omgeving is erg interessant waar wij vooral het Franse plaatsje Cassel kunnen aanbevelen met een onverwachts prachtig museum op het marktplein. Het Louvre Lens is overigens ook niet ver en eveneens zeer de moeite waard. Kortom, een prima uitvalsbasis in een prachtige omgeving.

une belle demeure pleine de charme, une chambre confortable avec une bonne literie et spacieuse, un joli parc, un parking. Le restaurant de l'hôtel sert des plats simples maix copieux et gouteux, le petit-déjeuner est tres bien fourni. Le prix de la chambre avec petit déjeuner est tres correct.

Kasteelhof t'Hooge is a nice family run hotel close to Ypres and actually in the middle of what was a WW1 battlefield. The original house was rebuilt in the 1920s. There is a big amusement park behind it but it wasn't an issue. I can see it being noisier in the summer months with the windows open but no issue in October. The rooms and hotel are a little quirky but everything is very clean, the beds are comfortable and there is good water pressure in the shower. It takes a minute to find what is the little bar/restaurant within the hotel as it's not really marked but I was also jet lagged. There is an annex building that is new, which looks like a doctor's office but I would still recommend staying in the main building if you like historic and charming. There is a nice patio and walk around what was the battlefield but it was too rainy and cold to enjoy. The food in the restaurant/bar was good and they had a nice selection of wine, beer, etc. Breakfast was included and was very good - everything was fresh and not much processed breads, etc. If you are interested in WWI, this is a good spot to feel in the middle of history. Loved the comfy down comforter and slept very well. It's not a Marriott or other chain so if you like those, this probably won't appeal but I was very pleased with my stay. Would definitely stay again.

Amazing history and location. So pleased we stayed here. Hadn’t realised it was in huge strategic location for Great War. Trenches and bunker in the grounds set the scene amazingly for our trip to the area. So much better than a place in town. Right next to hooge crater museum. Room was spacious and simple with comfy bed. Had a great beer in quirky bar. Decent continental breakfast. Staying here was big component of a super interesting couple of days. Feel like I got very lucky with this find.

The food was very tasty and good value, only downside was when we visited the restaurant wasnt open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday for evening meals. Breakfast is fantastic though, a very varied choice and you can eat as much as you like. Rooms are lovely with very comfortable beds, the rooms are serviced every day.
