Great stay, only for one night, but will surely return the other day. Bed (kingsize in a Butler's Room for single person), pillows, amenities like AC, heated towel rags, safe, coffee/tea-cooker etc. all excellent and by far above standard, i.e. eally good value for your money; staff supportive and helpful when needed, yet unassuming at any time. Breakfast good, pub/restaurant not visited.

Stayed in Salisbury Arms Saturday 12th August and what a marvelous refurb they have done all throughout the Building. Totally changed but yet still hasn't lost it's character with old beams etc. Rooms 10/10. Bars/Restaurant & New Courtyard 10/10. Food 10/10 definitely as good as any Jamie Oliver Restaurant I've eaten in. Staff Attitude 10/10 all seemed to enjoy working there with Jovial attitude which is very important. Service Oops 5/10. Only drawback but I totally get this as I currently work in the Hospitality Industry and it is very difficult to secure experienced waiting staff no matter where you visit or decide to wine & dine. I ate in the front of the building which was originally the Old Public Bar. Staff rarely ventured in here to check whether we needed any drinks or perhaps a desert and then when we did order extra drinks they still hadn't arrived after 20 minutes and it wasn't that busy. I got the impression one or two of the staff who served us were very new so I am sure that once the hotel has some continuity with their employees , who were all very polite and meant well, that they will become more familiar with the concept of checking customers and following up with a more realistic standard of service. This aside as mentioned earlier I am familiar as to how difficult it is to retain good staff at the moment I would have no problem recommending The Salisbury Arms Hotel as an excellent place to stay and wine & dine and I am sure it will flourish with it's lovely surroundings and very friendly attitude of the staff.

A very nice modern City Centre rendering of a Coaching Inn. Perfect location. Compliments to the Chef and the team. Though some dishes had portions simply too much. The Snug Room not quite up to a hotel sitting room. Bed Room nicely kitted out, though pointless and redundant number of cushions laid on the bed. Very good TV reception and response to the handset. Courtyard area outdoors a great feature. A bit understaffed, so had to go searching a few times. All in all a very good offering for business or leisure; at a competitive B&B inclusive price. Well done!

I cant tell you how much I enjoyed staying in this hotel ! The hotel sits right in the centre of Hertford. I stayed in one of the Snug rooms which overlooked the rooftops of Hertford. I particularly loved the beautiful bedlinen, the Rituals products in the bathroom and the Butlers room where you could get water in bottles with stoppers and fresh milk, along with a range of tea pigs and biscuits. These quality features made a real difference. The bar and restaurants were welcoming and fairly busy, giving a nice atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was immaculately clean. I think I enjoyed my stay at this hotel more than any other. I would definitely love to return .

Firstly, I should say that we visited with some friends when the Salisbury first re-opened after its refurbishment. We were so impressed. No expense had been spared and we often pop into the lovely bar when we're in town. That first occasion in the restaurant was wonderful. Waiting staff were being trained "on the job" and the food was delicious. On that basis, we recommended it to some other friends and we went last Saturday. What a disappointment! The waiters were pleasant enough but certainly not "trained" in restaurant service. Being addressed as "You guys" by staff wearing jeans and trainers was not a good start. We ordered some wine and a bottle was plonked on the table with the cap still on, with no offer to pour, let alone taste. Even the maitre d'hotel was dressed so casually, I didn't realise who he was until he asked if everything was "OK". There was no point in complaining because this is obviously the "standard". Our main course arrived with no cutlery with which to eat it and when we asked for some horseradish (I actually got mustard) and ketchup, they arrived in a jar and bottle. The food was good although my steak was a little tough and gristly and my friend suspected that her fish and chips were out of the freezer. In fairness though, the two men enjoyed their steaks and the starters were very nice. We might expect this kind of casual approach in a trendy bistro or gastro-pub but not in the elegant surroundings of Hertford's flagship hotel and restaurant. We will happily pop in for a drink but alas, we will not be returning to the restaurant. What a shame!.

Great stay! Beautiful room with a really comfortable bed, beautiful building, great service and central location. Brilliant having parking on site and breakfast was lovely too. Will definitely be back and can highly recommend.

Stayed in Signature Room . Could not fault the room. The trouble was the food. Stayed for Wedding Anniversary and booked restaurant. Ordered what was described as a Gourmet type burger. Arrived with 14 chips , no salad and very average burger. If it was priced at £8-10 It wouldn’t have bothered me , but at £17 its a overpriced disgrace. Didn’t complain as I didn’t want to wind myself up on what was meant to me a special night.

A large group of us enjoyed some good service and very good food for a special occasion. The recent refurbishment also provided a pleasant and comfortable environment. Unfortunately, the experience didn't warrant a five star review because of one failure on the part of the Salisbury......given the size of our group, we were asked for menu choices several weeks in advance, which we duly provided (and looked forward to). Having eaten our starters, were were informed that the roast chicken - which several of us had pre-ordered - had run out. What is the point of asking for pre-orders weeks in advance? This is basic restaurant school stuff and reflects very poorly on whoever was in charge of the kitchen during our visit.

We hastily had to leave our original (nearby) hotel - no hot water to the shower and poor customer service. We booked into The Salisbury and it was perfect from start to finish. The reception staff were helpful and efficient, The room was very tasteful, comfortable and above all else the shower had hot water (and rituals toiletries- my absolute favourite). The hotel had a welcoming atmosphere throughout our brief stay and our breakfast on the morning of our departure was freshly cooked with an excellent menu choice. My ONLY regret - we didn’t book here for our previous night as well. I thoroughly recommend a stay here.
