Travelodge Hemel Hempstead Gateway

I stayed at this Gateway Maryland Travelodge in March this week for 1 night stay on business. The hotel was well kept, tidy and staff were friendly and helpful. Car park was large enough and no overheight barriers meant I could easily park my minibus in there. The amenities around the hotel were all within 500 yards, absolutely ideal. Subway & Dominos next door with Tesco, Aldi, MaccyD’s, Costa down the road. I didn’t venture into town but I think it was walking distance? Maybe?? I didn’t walk that way but on the map it didn’t look far.

I arrived one dark evening after a 5 hr journey and left my car in the carpark, which had been advertised as free. A week after my stay l received a parking ticket notice because l didn't realise l had to registered my car registration number in reception when l checked in. I couldn't remember seeing anything in the reception area about this and the member of staff who checked me in didn't ask me if had travelled by car. It has now been resolved because after calling the Hemel Hempstead Gateway branch about this, and then emailing them the parking charge notice, the parking charge has been cancelled.

Mary on Reception is lovely and friendly. Always willing to help. Room was upgraded on them. Absolutely would recommend and lovely food in bar area. Have a laugh with and always happy to assist on all,...................................

Room was ok, couple of issues with sink and heating. Room a bit tired but useable. Breakfast was a joke, Items not available, no plates/bowls available, had to keep asking for them. What was available was very average, fruit juice undrinkable, eggs swimming in liquid etc. Not a good experience.

Other reviews left me feeling a bit concerned however my husband and I had an enjoyable stay. A good night sleep, comfortable bed.. Although we didn't use the bar and restaurant area, it looked nice enough. No complaints.

I stayed at this hotel for work and had a great stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was fresh and clean. The hotel itself is in a perfect location with easy access to the M1 and train station. Jamie in reception was very helpful and made sure I had everything I needed for my stay. The food in the bar cafe was very nice and at a decent price too. Will return for work again.
