This year we booked through the club Maui Kai as opposed to a third party like VRBO. We got the room we wanted at the going rate. To clarify, we have stayed here and loved Maui Kai for many, many years. It makes a difference who you rent through as these are individually owned combos. The 3rd party condo we had last year was not as wonderful as the one this year that we rented through the office. Last year was much more expensive so we won’t do that again. I must mention that Lala in the office is a delight! What a wonderful woman. We love her. She has been sweet, professional and very helpful. Our corner unit has been renovated. The kitchen is terrific. We do miss the ocean blue tile on the lanai. No rug, although better in a sandy environment, creates hard surface noise. The unit seems loud now. However, we love the ocean and wind sounds. It’s February and we don’t use the AC. It came on when we arrived and works well. We just prefer trade winds and are quite comfortable with windows open and strategic shades down at certain times. Here is what makes Maui Kai special: It’s right on the ocean. Every single unit is ocean front. Whales ( in season) turtles, other occasional sea creatures. They are right there. We spend a lot of time from coffee in the morning to cocktails at sunset watching the ocean. It’s mellow here. There is a small pool & hot tub. People are quiet and polite. It’s on the North end of Kaanapali. The paved board walk begins just to the south out of the Maui Kai driveway. You are close to the Times grocery and a commercial area- walking distance. There are food trucks. If you didn’t need to go to attractions every day you could stay here without a car. That is a rarity on Maui. We walk to Dukes too. Step out to the right or left for sand beach. Airport beach is in walking distance. Even though there is little to no sand in front of the building it’s on either side. This trip we have seen snorkels, surfers and stand up paddle boards out in front. Our plan is to continue our yearly vacation with some time at Maui Kai.

This was the best view I have ever had on vacation. It was amazing to see Whales and Turtles from the balcony (8th floor). Easy parking and super easy check in. The property was nice to go to Lahina or any other spot it's on the right side of Black Rock so not as busy as the Kaanapali Hilton and Sheritan side. We had the 8th floor and book airbnb and it was wonderful. Each Condo had everything you need and more. It was safe and beautiful.

We booked last minute through Myperfectstays.com at the Maui Kai condo complex just north of Kaanapali beach. It is an older building, built in 1970 and you can tell that from the architecture and wear on the general areas of the building. Wasn't a problem for us as we knew going in it was a low frills, basic place to stay, and since it was our first time there and we were going to be out exploring/eating it wasn't important to us that it be a brand new unit or a place with entertainment / amenities like a resort. Unit had AC which worked well, although it was loud and cycled on and off (again I think because of the age of the place) but if you can sleep through that kind of noise it isn't an issue. We had great weather, so we were able to leave the lanai doors open several nights instead of using the AC to hear the ocean which was wonderful. The lanai was the highlight of the condo, we spent our afternoons watching sunsets on it if we were not at dinner, and In the mornings we saw sea turtles swimming by. One afternoon we had a bit of wind and rain but the lanai was mostly protected even though it wasn't enclosed so we sat out and watched the weather. The unit we had did not have lounge chairs, just a table and high chairs but they were comfortable enough. The kitchen was stocked with enough kitchenware/utensils for two to cook and eat if you wanted to. We did not use the kitchen other than the fridge and coffee maker for the most part, but if we wanted to cook we definitely could have. There were basic spices but the fridge was empty so no condiments. Myperfectstays did leave a welcome gift of a few granola bars and coffee, which was very handy to get you through two or three days if you don't have multiple cups everyday. A short walk away is a grocery store, which was convenient for us to pick up some supplies each day. We did go to Costco to stock up right out of the airport, but honestly unless you are there for a long time or have a larger group Costco can be a hassle. There was also several restaurants within walking distance (including Dukes), as well as food trucks if that is your thing. The bathroom was a bit on the small side, I hit my elbow more than once on the bathroom counter due to the cramped space while sitting on the toilet. Shower had good pressure and hot water which is always nice. There was complimentary shampoo and body wash, although we had brought our own. The bedroom was not huge, and with the King bed it definitely wasn't spacious. But the bed was comfortable, a bit on the firm side for my tastes. Linens were nice and there was beach chairs in the closet for guests to use, which we took advantage of. There is front storage closet that had beach towels, coolers and noodles for the pool. There was a 4 person dining table next to the kitchen in the front room, and a good sized TV and couch to sit in if you weren't sitting on the lanai. Another excellent stay at Maui Kai. Beautiful views, big kitchen, and conveniently located near the beach, grocery store, food trucks, anything you might need. I highly recommend staying here rather than one of the resort hotels.

This was our first trip to Maui and we hope it’s not our last! The location, staff, unit and view were all amazing! And free parking is an added bonus! We enjoyed breakfast on our lanai while watching sea turtles in the water below or whales in the distance. It was perfect for my husband and me! 🌺

First time in Hawaii and the views are stunning. I wanted a place with ocean views. Maui Kai hs the most beautiful sunsets, They are breathtaking. The staff is amazing and very friendly. We stayed in room 705 and loved this room. The room was very clean and it was very quiet. I almost felt like we were the only people there. Pointers if you plan on going to Duke’s make sure you have dinner reservations ahead of time because they fill up quickly. There’s food trucks near by and that helped us a lot. I will be staying at Maui Kai again
