*Paid for a breakfast weeks in advance, and then was told on arrival no breakfast service available. Was given this back in cash and coins later, which I don’t ever use. *Stayed for 3 nights, was charged for 4. (Owner said booking agent would refund the additional night, then after I left the booking agent finally told me the owner had refused to.) This dragged on for a while. I had originally booked 4 nights and could only make 3 due to the charity I work for being in difficulty and needing the extra staffing, but like I say, the owner told me in person it wouldn’t be a problem. I wish she had been up front with me. We can’t all be philanthropists, and I understand she was struggling for business with the guest house being empty when I went to stay, but honesty and goodwill goes a long way. *Got LOCKED!! inside the small bedroom after the inside door handle fell off an hour after I had checked in, I called the hotel owner asking what I should do - who responded by freaking out and asking me what I thought I should do. Like a Benny Hill sketch, at this exact moment my takeaway arrived and the owner freaked out even more. Whilst locked inside the small room, I had to take control and manage the situation to 1) calm down the delivery driver who couldn’t understand English 2) calm down the owner who was panicked and dithering, and after a while I was finally freed and moved to another room. To be fair the room was a bigger double, but this is not what I had asked for and I would rather have done without the stress. When making conversation with me later on, the owner told me there were “always problems with hotel rooms” and that she had “already had an issue that week with the taps in that room not working.” On the plus side: *The room I did end up in was nice, it was bigger than the single I had booked, and it was worth the money in my view. It was pretty, clean and tidy. Nice colour scheme. *There were nice refreshments left out. *I managed to get an Amazon delivery sent to the hotel which worked out well. *I was allowed a slightly later check out on the last day. 2 stars is generous of me given their lack of generosity back and lies about the cancellation policy. With better management, I think this could be a great hotel.
