Having caught the early morning boat train from Ipswich to Harwich on which I promise you I was the only passenger, I was very early for a visit to the LV18, the former lightship which was hosting a 'Radio Caroline' weekend. So I ventured into the adjacent Pier hotel seeking breakfast. Their ground floor Navyard brasserie serves late breakfast from 9am, with offerings from pancakes with maple syrup (£8.50) to smoked haddock rarebit (£11). I opted for the full English (£14) which, as the picture shows, was very full indeed and jolly tasty too. Top notch ingredients such as a Proctor's sausage and Dingley Dell bacon. Somebody thought that serving the beans and butter in miniature saucepans was a clever idea. Quite frankly, the idea is totally impractical for the end-user, so tipping them out onto the plate was the only solution. Mustard was readily supplied and the server-cum receptionist willingly turned down the musak on request. Very pleasant place to linger for an hour while Stena Britannica sailed past en route to the Hook of Holland on a gorgeous spring morning.

Fabulous three nights in room number 3 over looking the sea! Warm welcome, large room, lovely well thought out menu with lots of tasty dishes. Great service by a lovely team. Could not fault this place. Breakfasts are from a wide menu and very filling.

Lovely 40th meal for a birthday group of 12. Staff couldn’t do enough for us, food was incredible and there was no waiting around. Lovely setting upstairs near the window with a gorgeous view, highly recommend. Would have been even better in the private dining room, however the atmosphere of the restaurant is really lovely.

We booked this as a treat, based on previous reviews and the fact that it's a seafood restaurant. Lets start with the room, we were assigned room 1, its clean and tidy and had everything we needed The only issue was the intermittent banging of a door which did interrupt the early part of our sleep. The food was excellent as expected and each course was carefully prepared. The caremale tart was the best ive eaten (However this is ment to be a seafood restaurant and on the night of our stay there was no shellfish available, which was extremely disappointing. We were offered salmon on pasta but thats not shellfish. And ended up with lamb chops, & steak both nicely cooked. The staff other than the lady at reception were super friendly and extremely polite and made you feel welcome. I would say that the lady on reception was going through the motions and basically you were spoiling her day. Summing up its a nice place and the food was good. I wanted to give this a higher score because it looks like a lot of effort has gone into the hotel and the kitchen staff . Are rocking it , Its just the little things that let this down , get this right and im sure your reviews will go through the roof . Ps sort out your not so happy reception lady

We went to the Botomless Bunch on the 1st February 2025. It was the best bottomless bunch I have had. Service and food were excellent, you never had to ask for a drink they constantly came round to take your orders for more drinks. I hope that they do another one It is highly recommended.

I booked the Pier function room, called the Saloon, for my wife's 40th Birthday and had around 20 guests attending. We had also booked a room for the night. Staff at the hotel were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. On the night of the meal, the whole thing was organised perfectly, and went off as well as I could have hoped for. The food was of the highest quality and the portions were worth every penny. The room itself was a deluxe room, having been given a complimentary upgrade. With views over looking the water, the room was worth every penny. The bed was comfortable, plenty of pillows, an extra thick fur blanket in case it go cold given the sash windows (it did not, the heating did the job perfectly). Breakfast was to the same quality as the meal the night before, and enjoyed while overlooking the water. All in all and brilliant and high quality experience which will see us return again and again. Well done again to all the staff, you were brilliant.
