A Great Disappointment — Far Below Expectations I am currently staying at The Alpina Gstaad, and unfortunately, the experience has been a great disappointment. Perhaps the contrast feels even more striking because we arrived after staying at the Hotel Cipriani in Venice, where the service was truly extraordinary. At The Alpina, however, the level of service simply does not reflect the price or the category of the hotel. Service is consistently slow and inattentive. Today, we requested that our room be serviced before going out for a walk, yet two hours later, when we returned, it still had not been done. The breakfast offering is surprisingly limited, with very few gluten-free options and hardly any fresh fruit. Even more disappointing is the lack of attention: you arrive for breakfast and there is often nobody there to welcome you, show you to a table or assist you. On Sunday, we went downstairs for lunch only to discover that the restaurant was closed for a private event. The hotel offered no proper alternative, leaving us with no option but to eat at the lobby bar. For a hotel of this supposed standard, guests should not have their dining choices so severely restricted because of a private function. Overall, the experience falls far short of what one should expect from a hotel of this reputation and price level. Sadly, I cannot recommend The Alpina Gstaad.
