Schönes und altehrwürdiges Haus mit viel historischer Bausubstanz. Grosse, gepflegte Gartenanlage. Das Hotel liegt äusserst ruhig am Rande von Goathland, die vor dem Haus durchführende Strasse stört nicht. Das kleine und malerische Ortszentrum ist in fussläufiger Entfernung. Lärmempfindliche Gäste müssen sich bewusst sein, dass die Dorfkirche unmittelbar neben dem Hotel liegt. Das tolle Westminster-Geläut ist in der Nacht abgestellt, könnte aber am frühen Morgen als störend empfunden werden. Das von mir bewohnte Zimmer war äusserst gemütlich und mit zum Stil des Gebäudes passenden Möbeln eingerichtet. Bequemes Bett vorhanden. Grosszügiges Bad, das Zimmer (in Verbindung mit der Möblierung) von der Grösse her eher knapp bemessen. Sehr sauber. Der historischen Architektur geschuldet ist, dass die Zimmerfenster aus der Bauzeit des Gebäudes stammen. Es handelt sich um einfachverglaste Fenster. Im Winter schützen nachträglich eingebaute Fenster vor Kälte. Leider liess sich bei meinem Zimmer von gesamthaft fünf Fensterflügeln nur einer (ca. 30 x 75 cm) öffnen und dies auch nur rund zur Hälfte. An einem heissen Sommertag kann das Zimmer somit nicht richtig gelüftet werden, die Hitze im Zimmer dürfte dann unerträglich sein. Der im Zimmer vorhandene Ventilator wird nur geringe Erleichterung schaffen. Die strassenseitige Front des Hauses (wo mein Zimmer seine Fenster hatte) wird die ganze Nacht über von starken Scheinwerfern angestrahlt. Eine Verdunkelung mit Vorhängen ist problemlos möglich, doch die Luftzirkulation wird dadurch nochmals erschwert. Das Hotel hat sehr schöne und vielfältige Gasträume. Es gibt sowohl ein elegantes Restaurant als auch eine urige Bar und rustikale Aufenthaltsräume. Die im Restaurant servierten Speisen sind durchgehend frisch, mit qualitativ hochstehenden Zutaten und auf hohem Niveau gekocht. Hervorragende Frühstückskarte. Es wird mehrheitlich an den Tisch serviert, als Gast passt man sich von Vorteil dem vom Betrieb vorgegebenen Tempo und den fest definierten (nicht aber kommunizierten) Abläufen an. Abweichungen davon (z.B. unmittelbar beim Platz nehmen das gekochte Frühstück zu bestellen) werden seitens des Personals nur widerwillig akzeptiert. Das Hotel wird grossmehrheitlich von einer sehr sympathischen, britischen Stammkundschaft im fortgeschrittenen Rentenalter frequentiert. Internationale Gäste jüngeren Alters (50plus) scheinen nicht zur erwünschten Kundschaft des Hotels zu gehören. Während die einheimische Klientel äusserst zuvorkommend und charmant bedient wird, zähle ich als internationaler, 50jähriger Gast offenkundig als Kunde zweiter Klasse und werde von der Mehrheit des Personals (Reception und Service, eine Dame und ein Herr waren die löblichen Ausnahmen) empfunden abschätzig behandelt. Dies äussert sich in gefühlt schleppenderer Bedienung sowie längeren Phasen des aktiven Nichtbeachtens. Das Personal spricht zudem mehrheitlich im breitesten Dialekt, es fehlt die Sensibilisierung auf Belange von intern

We stayed here for our 51st wedding anniversary in a large top floor suite overlooking the garden and the moors. All the staff were friendly and helpful but we felt that Malcom really went the extra mile and stood out as a lovely man who excelled in his work and was a credit to the hotel

Just returned from a one night stay at the Mallyan Spout Hotel having had great expectations based on the reviews. The afternoon tea was booked with the room online and was listed as £40.00, we were billed £50.00 and also £40.00, when this was queried were told the booking amount was incorrect. The £40 was taken off the bill. The afternoon tea was quite nice however, was not as advertised, there were only three types of sandwich, and no sausage roll. We went into the bar in the afternoon and my partner asked what the ales were that were available, and was told by a rude bar staff member "its on the list", what list? "its on the wall Fella". The evening meal was very nice but very expensive for the amount you get. We were aware of the prices before we went however one carrot on the venison!!. The chips are advertised as handcut with the steak, but were clearly frozen. The staff were quite nonchalant. At no point were we asked if everything was ok. Our room was unbearably hot, and although we turned the heating off it took your breath away, we had to open the window all night. There was a dressing table, but you could not have the lamp plugged in and and use the hairdryer from the sockets under the table as they were poorly fitted against the skirting board and you could not fit the plug in. The breakfast was not nice at all, undercooked sausage, the black pudding was rock hard and one piece of bacon was hard as well. The coffee was very weak and not nice. I did not tell the staff that the breakfast was not nice, as by now I was so disappointed by the whole experience, I just wanted to leave. I also believe that we were charged different to the menu, albeit a pound here and there but still different. This review is factual, and we were really disappointed in our visit

Atrocious Food! 1st 2x roast dinners returned asked for fresh meal not warmed up rock hard yorkshires and roast veg. 2nd meals arrived no better my roast beef red raw blood running on the plate! we got up and left! we had been previous day clap cold latte coffee! New Years Day ruined! I've been going Mallyan years! new owners now food atrocious! I won't go in ever again!!

My wife and I have been visiting the Mallyan Spout occasionally since our honeymoon there 44 years ago (no tripadvisor or even internet then). It has always been an excellent little hotel but, surprisingly, it has improved upon its great quality of service, ambience and food over the years. Our only problem is finding other places to go as it is hard to find anything similar elsewhere. Vacancies seem hard to come by and so, in writing this well-deserved review, I hope that not too many readers will take notice of it. Well done, and thanks to its owners and their teams over all those years.

Had a fabulous 2 night break away and stayed in one of the Valley View Rooms. It's the first time we've stayed here and certainly won't be the last. The room was amazing with a very comfy bed & so much space! The food was out of this world. Ate in the restaurant the first night and then in the bar on the second. The quality of the food was top notch! ALL the staff were extremely friendly, attentive, informative about the area and we noticed that nothing was too much of a problem for them. Fabulous place to stay and can't wait to return!
