We booked here for our Anniversary back in November for 2 of us, I then called & asked if we could book another 2 people a few weeks ago I was told yes that’s fine but when we arrived we were given a small table in the bar which tbh wasn’t big enough, we were disappointed that we were given this table in the bar & not the restaurant area having booked a while back. 2 of us ordered starters & all ordered mains which took about 40 mins to arrive after the starters, it was busy but if you can’t provide the service don’t take the bookings for me that’s down to greed. The sunday lunch was nice but the cauliflower cheese & roast potatoes weren’t the best, we then asked for more gravy as we were given 2 tiny gravy pots between 4 only to be prompted with “more gravy” by the waitress! I also asked to see the dessert menu before our food arrived but when we had finished our mains none of the waitresses came back to take our dessert order so we paid & left but we all had drinks and the bill came to nearly £200. We eat out a lot & have had Sunday lunches in lots of different restaurants so when you’re paying premium you expect premium food & service.

Amazing stay - the location is gorgeous, rooms a big, clean and comfy! The staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough and the food was excellent couldn’t recommend enough! It’s the little things too! Great tea coffee biscuits, chocolates and robes too! It really exceeded our expectations! The breakfast is amazing! Continental as well as a varied hot breakfast menu and the conservatory was gorgeous!

On the 16/1/23 I booked two rooms for Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th of March for 6 of us including our Granddaughters. At the same time I booked dinner both nights at 7-30. We arrived last Friday and dinner that evening was very good and on time. On Saturday afternoon a staff member told me the booking that evening had now been moved forward to 7pm which was fine and even showed me which table would be ours, later showing another family member the same table. The 6 of us duly arrived in the bar at 7 to find our table full and they were just being served with main courses. The bar was packed but we were asked to wait at a small table for 4 in the corner , 7-30 came and went and so did 8pm by which time we were all very very hungry indeed. We were eventually shown to another table at 8-15 but we did not actually get any food till 8-45. Most of the food was very good but my husband had Oysters which were tiny and cost £12 for 4 ! The owners have changed since our last stay there and I spoke to the new landlady the next morning about the table. She just said she was sorry but they were so busy they had to use it but surely Residents should come first, especially as I had booked dinner two months before and the tables were confirmed when we booked in. Unfortunately although we have stayed there several times and been very happy , with this attitude by the new Owners we will not be returning as Ryedale is full of good and fair places to stay.
