Called here as a walk in after a golf day at Kirkbymoorside with my dad. A shakey start with not booking but once the chef agreed to serve us if we sat outside we we're welcome. We both ordered the fish and chips and I can't stress enough how good these were. We have had the best that Whitby has to offer but these we're above and beyond. Thick white cod and the chips well out of this of this world.

We have been to The Royal Oak, and it is one of our favourites! This is exceptional accommodation with really great food. We have been here 8/9 times over the years, and the staff are brilliant and very helpful. The chefs certainly know their job with delicious food.

What a great find this was ! This a real pub as we all hope to find, great atmosphere with an open fire on the go and decent beer too. We stayed for 2 nights and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending and we will certainly return when in the area . The food was just what was needed, not too fancy but really well cooked and proper portions and piping hot and hot plates too . Good choice for breakfast and again well cooked and hot. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in the area you must go to the Royal Oak.

Food fantastic staff lovely and friendly, one of the best nights sleep I've ever had , beautiful scenery. Stayed many times and will be back ASAP love it.easy to get to nurmerous places and lots of lovely villages

We went for an overnight stay on a Saturday night. The restaurant was fully booked so glad we made a reservation. Food was delicious and there was a good choice. The almond tart dessert was amazing. Breakfast was equally good. The restaurant was well staffed and the service was great- polite and helpful staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, not to mention excellent walks on the moors.

I don’t particularly want to give the Royal Oak a positive review, as it means more people will discover the magic!!! We are returning guests, and every time from the moment we arrive we fall in love with it all over again. Such a beautiful peaceful place, spotless, comfy and welcoming. The food is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, and Sunday lunch is to die for. Neil is a super talented chef who plates up the most delicious food, even accommodated our request for a cheese board which isn’t on the menu. We have enjoyed sitting by the fire enjoying a glass of wine or a beer or two! Served by Margaret and Stella who provide the best personal service. We would definitely recommend the Oak to anyone looking for a quiet (but still within easy reach of amenities) and peaceful place. We really didn’t want to come home.
