米爾克羅夫特飯店(The Millcroft)

Beautiful hotel & restaurant in a perfect location looking out over the bay. The owner and staff were absolutely excellent, very friendly and hospitable to weary travellers. I had to leave at 5am thanks to the ferry company letting me down and having to re-book a stupidly early ferry on to the Orkney Isles, so I couldn't check out as normal and arranged with the owner to leave the room key at the unmanned reception desk before normal operating hours.

Privately owned hotels are struggling, and it showed. Bed - VERY POOR QUALITY - ALSO TOO SMALL. Hotel - Needs to be smashed down and rebuilt, it’s WAY past it’s sell by date. The only upto date item about the hotel, the price it charges per night - 150 pounds for a couple. It’s not worth half the money. Will definitely be back on the NC500 route, Scotland is beautiful, so beautiful it HAS to be seen. Use branded hotels they have the money and the infrastructure to offer you, what you will pay for. The privately owned ones don’t have the money backing behind them, and they think they are better than they really are. Sorry but true, rather sleep in your car, I’m not joking.

We paid for the hotel but we didn’t stay, the room was uninhabitable, cold dirty and damp, it was so bad we walked out almost immediately without knowing if we would be able to find anywhere else for the night, we decided the car would be cleaner!

The room was very small. I had paid extra for a mountain view which was quite obscured by the bed and a lamp. Unfortunately, the room was situated above the kitchen and there were two industrial extractor fans by my window. This meant it was SO noisy and I felt like I was next to a car with it's engine running. It was so stressful. I asked about changing rooms but apparently the hotel was full. The noise went on from about 4pm until about 10pm and started again in the morning at a out 7am. Horrendous! If you stay in this hotel, make sure you don't have room 1.

Disappointing to dreadful. This was one of the most expensive hotels we stayed at during our recent holiday in Scotland, but certainly the worst. The room was only ok, although smelt a little damp, the towels were frayed and there was a footpath just outside so wasn't as private as we would have liked. The access through a one- way outside service corridor was weird, not what you expect from a Hotel at this price to say the least. Cosy and welcoming it was not..... . The main hotel was shabby and dated. The food was dreadful, overcooked and salty. With the exception of one friendly waitress the customer service was non existent. Would not recommend.

The hotel is well positioned with lovely views over the loch. Check in was done efficiently. I was surprised by our room as it was like a self catering chalet with its own kitchen and little sitting room. A little disappointed that the tv was on the sitting room with none in the bedroom. The bathroom was lovely with a great shower. There was an on site bar and restaurant. We had dinner once and breakfast twice. The food was ok but nothing special. The staff were very accommodating though and organised breakfast on our second morning for 7.45 instead of 8. All in all an ok stay with bits of greatness.
