It's strange how you can go to a town like Forks, a small town on Washington's west coast, who's only claim to fame being that was the site where "Twilight" was filmed...and find a resort that could easily compete with any other resort in places like Hawaii, Miami, or Monterey. That is how good Quillayute River Resort is. We had one of the suites for two nights. The moment we entered, we could see that the owners had done their homework in making this a high quality resort. Nothing had been left to chance. The kitchen had more amenities than my own. Top name pots and pans, hanging from a rack. A knife block with SHARP knives, an Oster blender, a large microwave and equally large full oven, real plates and lots of deep mugs over the top name coffee maker. Coffee was provided, no less. As were a carafe of olive oil and fresh spices that you always forget if you plan to cook while on vacation. There was even two trays of ice cubes in the freezer. The bed was a good one, with high quality sheets. The bathroom was loaded with big thirsty towels and the shower had HOT water. Two sources of heat (necessary in our wet climate) were a propane fireplace and baseboard heating. A large closet provided plenty of room for everything you brought with you. And clean? It was spotless, top to bottom, end to end. Not so much as a dust bunny underneath the bed. Even the drawers in the nightstands were spotlessly clean. At night, the only noise was from the rivers. Ah, yes, the rivers. The Sol Duc and Quillayute conjoin right in front of the lodge. If you sat outside in the Adirondack chairs you had a front row seat of the river. Ospreys called overhead. A ruby crowned kinglet scolded from the shrubs. A common merganser and a pair of kingfishers searched the river for dinner. And best of all, a family of four otters played in the rapids. Oh, heck yes, I HIGHLY recommend this resort. I'll go back, someday.
