We booked The Bear, as part of company hospitality event at the racecourse. Also being referred by other members of the company who are based in Surrey. Parking was slightly ropey, but we did manage to get into the car park. The building is lovely, so much character. The room was nice, slightly on the small side. Nicely done, for the price point. My only real critique in the room is the pillows, new ones are needed and the shower needs fixing, so the head can be supported, without having to held. I would definitely request a rear room, as the road side is very noisy. I think the hotel really needs to print an invoice off for guests at check it. Instead, nothing is handed over. An amount is charged (which guests have no chance to rectify) then the invoice arrives 1-2 days after the stay.

Friendly welcome however the room was not worth the tariff paid. The blind in the bedroom was broken: the coffee machine was broken and did not work properly leaving a pool of coffee on the table and not in the cup; the shower control was too stiff for me to turn; the shower slider was wobbly: there was only one bedside table; the bedside light did not work. Couldn’t find anyone upon checking out to be told it’s all automatic. It would also help if they provided the key code for the car park prior to arrival. Purely on personal preference, I would rather open a window than have air con on. On the plus side, nice linens and honesty bar (not that we used it but nice touch). Oat milk also appreciated and the shower gel etc was lovely.

My son and I stayed for a night at The Bear hotel in room 6 - a twin room. The room was decorated nicely, spotless, with well working air conditioning and a mini fridge. Beds were comfortable. I had been concerned it might be noisy staying above a pub on a Saturday night but other than a faint murmur at times from below, it wasn’t disturbing at all. Tracy was an absolute gem from start to finish. You felt that noting would’ve been too much to ask. She was very sweet and engaging with my son. He liked it there so much he said it was the best place he’s stayed and asked if we could stay another night..! Alas not this time but I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were very comfortable with all the anenities you need. We were very well looked after. It is rare to get good customer service these days.

Stayed at The Bear for two nights. Food was good. Room was modern and comfortable, however, minor issues let it down. Tap on bathroom sink loose and wood panelling behind bed needed a good dust. Plenty of soft towels. Pleased to see non slip mat in shower.

The welcome from staff set the tone - Marty was incredibly friendly and personable. The room was comfortable and amenities were well presented. The atmosphere in the bar was chilled and relaxed and the restaurant service was good despite two big events happening that evening.
