Despite reading some negative reviews we both really enjoyed it. We were welcomed by lovely staff at check in desk and at the door. Very friendly and chatty. We had a lovely room,not the best view but it was only one night and it didn’t really bother us. Lovely shower rand bathroom. In fact my husband said it was the best shower he had used and we do travel! Had a welcome anniversary card and two lovely cakes which were delicious.Breakfast was nice but felt the avocado toast was too big a portion .it was nicely presented. Had drinks in the evening in the Spence with my family which was nice. My only comment would be the room was not warm! Even at breakfast people were wearing puffer gilets! The rooftop bar was nice but doesn’t open till 5 pm for whatever reason so went to libertine next door which was lovely. Position of hotel is excellent,right beside Harvey Nicks and beside the new St James centre which is worth a visit.

Went here for a rare kid free drink and got made to feel terrible. Not sure what they are trying to achieve. We went next door to lady libertine instead and was great atmosphere and experience- much better! So exclusive it’s empty! Keep up the great work!

I’ve been quite surprised by reading some of the reviews (which I’m pleased I didn’t read before booking or they would have definitely put me off!) - the hotel has either listened to the feedback and acted promptly or there has been a minor blip perhaps in service. We’re just returning from 2 lovely nights at the hotel. We had a large well proportioned room with a huge comfortable bed. The staff were really lovely, engaging in conversation, checking us in well before check in time and taking our luggage until the room was ready. I had the best breakfast I’d ever had with great smoothies, buckwheat crepes with salmon and granola. Admittedly the coffee was tepid one day, but was promptly replaced when we asked so no issue there. We also had an evening meal there, my partner is allergic to onions and they brought him a menu that had been discussed with the chef with a tick against every meal he could have which was a lot better service than another high end restaurant we went to to the next day. The food was delicious and the liqueur coffees were again the best we’d ever had! The roof top bar was fab, with the staff remembering our order from one day to the next. The only small gripe we had was that we were charged service on top of every meal - so even though we paid for breakfast in advance, we were then charged a service charge each day and for the cleaning of the room without this being highlighted (unless I missed it in the small print), we didn’t want a turn down service but the cleaners did this on the second eve anyway. I would expect this for eve meals but I’ve not experienced this before for hotel breakfasts and servicing of the room. I would highly recommend the hotel, but just be aware of the service charges

What a stunning building... you can just sit there and look around and up to the Dome in the roof - absolutely breathtaking. Service excellent, nibbles delicious and wine excellent - no quibbles at all. Great for a special occassion you wont regret it.

As a travel writer, I was meant to be staying at and reviewing the Cheval Edinburgh Grand. When we arrived, we first walked into a beautiful lobby with our luggage whisked away by a polite young man who introduced himself as Douglas. Sadly, we then realised that this was the Gleneagles Townhouse, and our hotel was actually next-door to it! Our luggage was brought back out to us, and we left the stunning lobby to go to the other hotel next door. However, we were so impressed by the few minutes that we spent in there that we returned the following night for drinks. The staff was so polite - Jamie, Douglas, who took our bags the first time around, and the lovely barman Scott were all great ambassadors for the hotel. In fact, their service was so good, and the place looked so lovely, that I plan to discuss an official visit to stay here and do a write-up next year. The bar area was lovely, and although we didn't have a booking, we were seated in a matter of minutes on a Friday evening. It was relaxed and classy, and the service was on-point. While I cannot comment on the rooms at this hotel, I would imagine they are also stunning. Looking forward to actually staying at the hotel in the near future, as I think it will be one of my top recommendations in Edinburgh, along with The Balmoral.

Christmas Festive Menu Pathetic 2023 The food was fine, but had nothing to do with Christmas. There wasn't even turkey on the menu This was the so called festive menu. If they are going to call it a festive menu they should at least attemp something close The front entrance is decorated but the inside is minimal Sad Christmas experience. Staff were lovely.

We had a table booked to treat our Mums after i visited last summer and raved about how good it was. Sadly, it has gone downhill since then. We ordered 4 well done Sunday roasts, 1 came that was visibly rare, another was discovered to be rare once the first slice of meat had been eaten. There were no serving cutlery with the vegetable dishes nor any spoon for the cauliflower cheese. My mums was taken away to be cooked further, a good 10 minutes went by (we were all almost finished ours) before her plate came back out, i had to ask for hot vegetables and hot gravy for her as the originals were either eaten or cold. The food was served on cold plates as well - no idea how they thought that was a good idea. The ambient lighting on our table went out almost immediately and none of the staff noticed, it was only when i mentioned this, it was changed. For the money you pay here, you expect top drawer and i’m afraid this was nowhere near what it should have been. Really, really disappointed.

The is now without a doubt Edinburgh’s finest hotel. They have managed to transport some of the magic of the original Gleneagles to this boutique city centre property in the very heart of the Capital’s elegant New Town. Gorgeous furnishings and incredibly comfortable beds, and the most powerful showers I’ve ever experienced are all you need, but the service is what makes it truly special. Incredibly warm and friendly, yet efficient and knowledgeable, it felt as though I was staying with friends in their very grand home (friends who will get you a charger cable, bring you hot crispy fries to your room and snag a hard to get reservation at a moments notice that is). The remarkable gym also deserves praise, it even has a cryotherapy chamber to blast away the cobwebs after a late Edinburgh night. Make sure you have a meal at The Spence, seemingly one of the city’s most fashionable restaurants and certainly its most beautiful.

My friend and I visited The Spence for afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday. It was perfect! The service was impeccable and all the staff we met were so pleasant. The food itself was delicious. We couldn’t eat it all so were given what was left in boxes to take home. The surroundings are absolutely stunning. Every effort has been made to preserve the integrity of the former bank building and preserve its beautiful Georgian architecture. A definite must visit place for a special occasion. We will definitely return
