The House by Elegant Hotels - All-Inclusive, Adults Only

Staff lovely , breakfast average , all other food very poor standard . The hotel is over priced . They have charged our credit card for pick up and drop off at airport and we got our own taxi !No one getting back to us for a refund . E-mailed the Marriott bonvoy to complain and The House , absolutely nothing, no one got back to us , ignored ! Would never recommend the hotel to anyone .

This hotel is advertised as "All Inclusive". It is not! You can have gin as long as it's Gordons. Other brands are chargeable. The wine and food selection is awful, with the exception of breakfast. Motorised water sports are limited to 15 min.

We had booked Treasure Beach nearby ,which we have experienced fondly in the past ,but as a refurbishment project had overrun we were offered the alternative of staying in The House . We had visited friends who liked the hotel in the past and it was considered a step up in rating and quality before we arrived . How wrong we were . Far from being luxury with service to match it would rate as poor in so many respects ( particularly compared to any hotel in Asia ) despite willing staff always 'doing their best '. The Elegant Hotels Group was acquired by Marriott a few years ago yet perhaps tellingly is not branded as such and there is scant evidence of professional management by one of the world's largest hotel chains . It is also generally tired with more than a lick of paint needed if it is to be worth the money . Amongst more specific issues are ; -Despite new loungers , there are not enough beds for the number of guests especially as shade is at a premium . This leads to unseemly behaviour early in the morning unpoliced by the hotel despite some plaintiff signs around such early reservation -The breakfast buffet is a shadow of others at similar hotels - Dining is hit and miss and one can think 'all inclusive ' promotes unhealthy complacency amongst the catering team . Certainly a wait of 54mins for soup is considered excessive - A general absence of management and customer care . We have never before been to an hotel without a reception and having always someone to ask . Though there was some supervision we believe it is unclear who is responsible for anything - Almost no communication about events , special meals , managers cocktail parties , buffets, entertainment or anything of interest to those trying to enjoy the beauty of Barbados' west coast. At more than $1100 a night it is not worth anything like it . Never again for us .

My husband and I traveled to Barbados to celebrate a milestone birthday of mine. I am a loyal Marriott fan, so we looked within the properties offered by Marriott and landed on The House by Elegant. It is an all-inclusive, all adult property which seemed to check all the boxes. We had only experienced an all-inclusive once before, but based on the write-up, The House seemed like several notches above our past experience. We were sold! The House made arrangements for airport transfer so getting to the property was a breeze. Once we arrived, we were surprised at how intimate and beautiful the property was. We were upgraded to an Ocean Front Junior Suite, which was the perfect size for us for the week. We did not plan many off-property trips as the main purpose of the trip was to relax, soak up the sun and hear the ocean waves. We were not disappointed. Starting off with a daily champagne breakfast, the meals through the day were ordered off a menu - no buffets!! The drinks were non-stop all day including fresh coconut water straight from the coconut, the weather was perfect despite being rainy season and I even received a complimentary massage. Per my husband's request, the staff planned a special birthday dinner for us under a romantically lit cabana overlooking the ocean. It was perfect! The absolute best thing about the property though besides the view, the beach, the lush vegetation and the comfortable room was the staff. The staff at The House was amazing! They catered to our every whim, nothing was too big or too small for them. A huge shout out to Andrew, Wade. Sheena, Rhea, Patricia, Richard, Sherrie Ann, Rochelle, Denis and many others who made our island vacation the Perfect Getaway. Thank you to all of the staff at The House for making this a memorable and amazing birthday vacation!

Just finished a relaxing week at The House, had such a great vacation. Room was an ocean view suite, spacious, clean and comfortable. Beach was great with excellent snorkelling from shore. Restaurant offered variety of high quality options daily, excellent bar. Management and staff really made the trip, very friendly and genuinely cared about the quality of experience. Facility is starting to show its age, but did not detract from experience and a renovation is coming in September. Thanks for a great vacation.

We have just returned from a third holiday to the House for 12 nights. We had another wonderful holiday from start to finish. The food was excellent, the atmosphere fun and so friendly. The staff make the hotel and the holiday!! Jason the Manager and all of the staff, without exception, make your holiday memorable providing all you need, advice, care, friendship and fun. The Hotel could do with some updating but it certainly does not affect your enjoyment. Thank you everyone and we hope to see you all again next year. Joan and Harry
