YHA Dufton - Hostel

Dufton YHA is a friendly charming hostel above the Eden Valley, nestled by the village green at the base of the Pennine Hills and near to/on at least three national cycle routes not far from Appleby.  It's also on the Pennine Way.   For guests who wish to cater for themselves , the kitchen is spotless.  If you're lucky enough to visit in summer, you can enjoy your meal in the garden where the team have thoughtfully placed a couple of tables. The comfortable lounge is well equipped too, and even has toys for children.   When you visit Dufton, do make time for refreshments at the Postbox Pantry (seating outdoors as well as indoors to enjoy the view)   Dufton means "the farmstead where the doves were kept". It is mentioned in documents as far back as 1176 and 1291.  Dufton has an artists weekend in July followed by the Fellside Agricultural Show & Sheepdog trials in August. The Eden Valley has many interesting walks and villages, including Morland - famed for its annual choristers camp which meets during the first week of August (7 miles from Dufton, half way to Penrith) 

2 days of total peace and quiet with my son. Hostel really clean and cosy - rooms and shared facilities were spotless. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming. The location is stunning- great pub opposite and many lively walks from the hostel.

A cosy, welcoming hostel in a great location. Friendly helpful team. Well located for walks in the nearby fells, some leaving direct from the village. Pleasant pub across the green. Had an excellent cooked breakfast which set us up for the day (veggie options available).
