This is a lovely BnB, located very well for exploring the North East. Our hosts made us very welcome, our room was very comfortable and the breakfasts were fantastic, with extra special touches from the home grown fruits and preserves from their garden. Raby Castle, Beamish, the Auckland Project, Locomotion and lots more are only a short drive away through outstandingly beautiful countryside.

Welcoming hosts and a delightful room which had everything needed. Breakfast superb to set you up for the day. Great sleep. Highly recommend. You would not be disappointed. Will stay again if ever back that way.

Perfect. A fabulous place to stay to explore the area. We had the Pink room with lovely views of a local farm and the hills beyond. The room had a very comfortable bed and all the amenities we needed …it had been carefully thought through with lovely touches. A good wholesome breakfast served in the elegant dining room. There was plenty of choice with food sourced locally and beautifully presented. Obviously Jill and Rupert have put their hearts into making this outstanding B and B into a memorable place to stay. We visited Durham for the day ( 15 mins. to The Park and Ride) and also Bishop Auckland ( 15 mins. drive) which has the wonderful Bishops Palace, mining museum and Spanish Art gallery. We also visited Kynren ( 10 mins. drive) which was amazing. We would highly recommend Dowfold House as the perfect place to stay whilst exploring this part of the country.

Our stay began with a warm welcome from Jill offering tea, coffee and delicious home made cake whilst enjoying the view from a comfy sofa. The bedroom was spotless with lots of little extras that made it feel very comfortable and homely and a wonderful view. Breakfast was second to none, all made using local produce and as another reviewer commented, the poached eggs were the best ever. We were only there for 2 nights and would happily have stayed longer but will save that for next time. For anyone visiting Kynren, this is the place to stay as it was only a 10 minute drive away. Rupert even gave us plastic bags to cover our legs as it was the first time we had seen rain in several weeks. The Copper Mine is a definite for an evening meal. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and good food too. Thank you too for forwarding the water bottle I had left in the bedroom, it was very much appreciated.

Stayed overnight at Dowfold House on my trip to Durham, What a gem of a place! Loved the friendly atmosphere and the room was spotless with a stunning view. Well done Jill and Rupert! Thank you for your very warm welcome. Rupert - your poached eggs are the best. Will definitely stay again

We stayed for a couple of nights at the end of April. Communication before arrival was good. All dealings with the hosts before and during our stay were business like. We had the red room and it was as advertised with a comfortable bed. We had the full English breakfast with a couple of add ons. It was pretty well standard fare that you would expect in any decent English B& B. and set us up for the day. The property is handy for the Copper Mine Restaurant for eating and is a short drive from Durham and a couple of other places of local interest. The Roman fort at Binchester is a short drive away as is the oldest Saxon church in England at Escomb. For us, the B&B had no outstanding features but neither were there any issues. It was just a solid place to make a base for a couple of days and in that regard it served our purpose well.
