Very disappointed!! The hotel has changed so much over the last 30 years that we have been visiting. Disappointed experience in the garden room. I'm decided to leave and go to the brasserie. Which we enjoyed. Better food better atmosphere. It is quite clear there are cutbacks and it shows enormously. We will have to find another place to the Devonshire arms. Never to return again. Would if passing call in the brasserie.

My husband and I had a wonderful day at the Devonshire Arms Spa. The facilities are spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly and attentive. The tents are great and the weather was warm so we were able to have afternoon tea outside, looking out across the hills. I had a wonderful relaxing massage from Jackie. Jackie took time to ask me about how I was feeling and what I would like from the massage. I had a back, shoulder, arm and face massage and floated out feeling super relaxed. Thanks to all at the Devonshire Arms, we will be back.

Had a spa day and then dinner bed and breakfast in the hotel. The spa experience was very good. Pleasant hour in the spa which was quiet and we accessed all amenities easily. The water was however too cold for a spa. Lunch was very good quality, plentiful and accompanied by a glass of fizz. . Loved the teepee which was warm, had tea facilities and surrounded by beautiful views. I’m sure even better experience in spring/ summer. Treatment was most enjoyable. All staff were very pleasant and helpful. Special mention to Duncan who was extremely welcoming and helpful. Overall the spa visit would have been 5 star if the spa water had been warm. We followed the spa visit with a lovely walk in winter sunshine from the hotel to the Abbey. What a stunning location for a hotel. Checking in the hotel the lady on reception was very welcoming. She escorted us to our room and showed us around the hotel. The hotel has a country house feel but somehow it doesn’t gel. The art work doesn’t fit in and pieces of paper stuck on the walls advertising sales of art feels cheap. Rooms are quite small and feel cluttered. Toiletries are good quality and smell lovely, nice quality towels and comfortable beds. The rooms are subtly lit which gives a cosy feel but unfortunately made it very difficult for me to read my book. Overall a little disappointing. Dinner was disappointing. The restaurant is brightly lit and feels shabby. Absolutely no atmosphere. Starters were acceptable although the lettuce on the prawn cocktail looked like it had seen better days. Main course of prawns and salmon sticky noodles was very tasty but only one prawn! Cod with lentils bland. Lovely cheese board to finish. The food in my local pub is a higher standard. Service was ok but staff were very pleasant. The breakfast room is a real contrast to the dining room and feels much more plush. Breakfast was very good. Good choices on offer, very good quality and well cooked. Service was very good. A great end to a mediocre overall experience. Would I return? Yes for the location but definitely not for value for money.

A beautiful hotel and grounds with very comfortable rooms - spacious and beautifully furnished. The staff were very nice and moved us to a ground floor room as my husband is disabled. The food was exceptional, and I had the same meal twice for dinner because it was so scrumptious! The spa pool is lovely with hot jets and a whirlpool and lots of gym equipment. Altogether a great experience, and we look forward to returning to any of the Devonshire hotels.

We’ve never visited the Devonshire even though we only live half an hour away so decided to go for afternoon tea. The Bolton Abbey area is undoubtedly beautiful and parking on arrival was plentiful. We were seated in the cocktail bar and served tea, Prosecco and the usual selection of sandwiches and cakes along with a sausage roll and croque monsieur. Everything was delicious ( personally I prefer more savouries than sweet) and we couldn’t eat the two scones we had each so took them home in a box provided! Service was great, friendly staff and very efficient. We had a walk through the hotel and all staff we encountered were welcoming and helpful. Looking to book an overnight stay as there are lovely walks from the hotel. It’s a gem in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and we’re looking forward to another visit soon.

What a super time we have had on our second visit to this hotel. The staff especially Warren and Attila can’t do enough for you with their superb service. The Burlington is a very worthy restaurant and is comparable to any famous chef’s cuisine, a fusion of delicious flavours and some extra surprises. We like The Artist room with its numerous pictures.
