I arrived at the hotel to someone who greeted me totally unprofessionally and in a very cold and unwelcoming manner. He then said ‘your room is upstairs’, didn’t tell me where the room was or offer to help with my fairly substantial amount of luggage. The room was clean and so was the en-suite so that is good - however the noise and quality of the room was much below the standard that I would expect. The pillows were so hard and of such a poor quality that I ended up sleeping without any pillows at all as they were so uncomfortable and slept very poorly. It was also very very hot, but with the noise levels I was unable to open a window. The room had what could only be described as an incessant buzzing sound - as if an electrical outlet in the room was malfunctioning, but it was very loud and my partner even noticed the sound over the phone. Then, the noise from the exterior started. There was lots of drunk people on-site, which is understandable considering there is a pub downstairs, however at 11:45pm the doorbell for the hotel began to go off and there were people kicking the door and screaming vile language through the corridors, for which there was no intervention from the staff. It got to the point that it was intimidating and quite scary for me as a woman staying alone in a city I’d never been in before and the rooms not feeling particularly secure. The walls are so thin you could hear people coughing and brushing their teeth in the rooms next door, as well as being able to hear every text tone going off in all of the surrounding rooms. I spoke to a member of staff about this, and she responded ‘well I don’t know what you want me to do - I have no spare rooms and no ear plugs. Just sleep with a pillow over your head’. Which I found genuinely laughable. Will never be coming back and I can’t recommend anyone else does.
