We had researched where to stay in Hanmer Springs and Settlers consistently showed as a good choice. Sometimes what you expect and what you get are very different, but I have to say the excellent reviews are certainly warranted. The motel is in a great location, the room was spotless and well equipped, and the owners were lovely. Having towels to use when visiting the hot pools was a really nice touch too. We would definitely stay here if ever this way again, and would not hesitate in recommending Settlers.
Have stayed here a few years back and it was great but wouldn’t stay here again primarily because the service was so disappointing. Their website says they “offer luxury, indulgence and exemplary hospitality to match” so I booked a “5-star luxury apartment” with “daily servicing” included. None of this is true. The key reason we were so disappointed was because when we checked in for our week long stay, we were told after we paid almost $3000 that they wouldn’t be able to service our room “due to COVID”. It’s worth noting that at this point in time there was ONE community case of COVID in the entire South Island! Two days in, we asked for more towels and toilet paper (both included in the price according to the compendium). We were made to feel like we were inconveniencing them and we got given towels and ONE roll of toilet paper. We didn’t bother asking again, just bought our own toilet paper and washed the towels. We received an email a few weeks before our stay saying we had to be fully vaccinated to stay, and I’m not sure why they didn’t say in that email about servicing. To be told after we had paid, felt very deliberate. We were not offered any discount for no servicing, even though this was clearly going to save them money! The wifi was also poor, dropping out constantly and we had to use our own data in the end. The room itself was nice but more 3.5 stars than 5 stars. It was comfortable and spacious, but tired. There were many other things I could details here but I think I’ve probably said enough! The managers are trying to sell their management rights so I suspect this is why the service has slipped so badly. Hopefully new managers come along soon and rejuvenate the place back to what it used to be.
This has to be one of our favourite motels in NZ. It is modern and very well located. The sun streams in all day (when available!). The host has upgraded us to a three bedroom unit the last two times we have stayed. Very spacious with a wet floor shower, super comfortable bed and excellent heating. It is only a 400M walk to the hot pools and is close to restaurants and cafes. The unit has a well equipped kitchen. We will stay again.

We would definitely stay here if ever this way again, and would not hesitate in recommending Settlers.
訪訪客The manager Sourab was very welcoming helpful and generous. He had helpful information about the town and eateries, was very kind to allow us access to a clothes drier as the motel one was having issues and generously went over and above his role to help us.. the motel was comfortable and clean close to town and the local pools and golf course, we have been here twice now and would highly recommend it. The restaurant next door also provides breakfast until 10am and midday and evening meals, the quality is good and fairly priced.

There is a commercial grade kitchen available for guests that is fully kitted out with cooking gear, hot plates and ovens, microwaves, a coffee machine and so on. Big lounge area with a mix of tables and soft furnishings, tv, games and similar plus outdoor courtyard with tables and BBQ. Had a relaxed night cooking some local chorizo and Zuchinni with Italian gnocchi and a tomato and basil sauce enjoyed with a bottle of Hawkes Bay Syrah. Rooms are modern and well equipped and while not huge have everything you need with the lounge and kitchen facilities available. Highly recommended if you are visiting Hanmer Springs 😆
