Although greeted with a welcoming smile by the first receptionist that greeted me on my arrival, I can honestly say this is the worst place I have ever had to stay. I found multiple hairs across the whole room. Laminated menu that was dirty on a dresser offering the dinner menu for downstairs. Only positive I found were the cheap biscuits offered with the tea bags in the room. Very dated with damaged furniture, walls and curtains. Opened the curtain in the morning and the whole thing fell down. Shower was so filthy I didn’t use this. Hairs and what appeared to be eyelashes on the floor. The toilet roll that was spare behind on the toilet was unused however dirty. Bedside lamp shade was filthy. I was booked to stay here on a business trip and felt the cleanliness was at such a low, I did not try the breakfast that I had paid for after having an awful nights sleep. Road noise is loud yes however would not say this impacted my sleep at all. When I checked out very early the next morning, the receptionist (a different one this time) was dealing with another guest complaint when I was checking out and said “okay, anything I need to know” so I alerted them to the curtain and hooks that had fallen down. She appeared unbothered as I left swiftly. The overall cleanliness and condition of this hotel was the same throughout as I found within the hotel room itself. A real shame when it was £110 for the night and was booked last minute with local other larger chain hotels fully booked. An experience I can genuinely same made me feel very uncomfortable.
Came to a group meeting stayed overnight the hotel is like brand new despite being open 5 years , spotlessly clean the few staff we encountered were very helpful and welcoming . It’s surprising such a modern build has no air con or usb ports for laptops etc. It must be remembered that the hotel is located on a university campus and if sleeping with windows open students are not the quietest and very nocturnal! They are shouting and talking loud throughout the night ! They never seem to sleep!
Wonderful stay. Our premium room was so pretty and plenty big. Nice comfy bed and all very clean. Dinner was exceptional. The quality of food was amazing and the portions were large! Breakfast was freshly cooked and very nice. The staff were all friendly and efficient. We were made to feel very welcome.
I have stayed a few times once for a while on my own and it was the staff that made it for me they were so kind nothing was to much trouble and I drink a lot of tea so needed lots of top ups lol I felt very safe here I have worked in the industry myself so I know how hard they all work they have a great manager there customer service is amazing 5 stars will always stay here when I town thank you Lorraine
We stayed Friday for one night as we were visiting friends in nearby ****on Bec. We were warmly greeted by Julian and check-in was easy. Our accommodation is just across the car park and was more than adequate for our needs. We decided to have a drink before going out and there is a good selection of beers and wines, all reasonably priced. We thoroughly enjoyed chatting to Julian and learning about his sister's plans for The Narrow Boat. Obviously in January the weather isn't appropriate for sitting out in the garden overlooking the canal, but there is also another indoor restaurant that overlooks the terrace. We were more than happy sitting in the smaller restaurant/bar area particularly with the log-burning stove beside us! We had a look at the food menu which looked very nice and reasonably priced. Our breakfast on Saturday morning was delicious. My husband opted for the ”full works” which had a supplement, whilst I went for the standard one. Very nicely presented and the poached eggs were perfectly cooked. As other people have said, The Narrow Boat is on the A5 so you will experience some noise from the road but you get used to it. We look forward to coming back to stay again the next time we're in the area. Thanks to Julian and the chef for making us so welcome.
