Having visited many other properties in the Chestnut Group and always had a very good experience I was looking forward to trying one of the more recent acquisitions for lunch with a friend and 3 small dogs. We arrived and were seated in an otherwise empty section of the restaurant so they were not busy. It took an age to be served only to be asked what we'd like to order food wise but we hadn't even been asked for our drinks order. The food arrived, which was delicious, we both had the Sea Bream. When our plates were cleared we asked for the dessert menu but half an hour later had not arrived so we went to the till to pay, not leaving a tip which is something I have never done in other of the groups properties. We were served by 3 different members of staff so there didn't seem to be any consistency in service and the young man who we had asked for the dessert menu and who took our payment almost fobbed us off by explaining how he was ”absolutely rushed off his feet”. While we were paying another customer had to come us to the till area to place their order! Thoroughly disappointed and not up to the groups normal service. Hope the Maltings when it opens will be more professionally run.
1940’s weekend so the room was expensive £230 per night. The sheets were stained .when changed only a single sheet was provided for a double bed! The room was depressing with brown furniture and brown cushions. The Tv shut down at 11am checkout time in the morning. Breakfast even at this price not included a first for me anywhere in the world. The restaurant was the redeeming feature thankfully although the lighting was so low first of all that everyone cheered when the lights finally brightened. Never again.
