Laughing Bear Cabin is a historic piece of Mt. Hood, Oregon’s rusticbeauty. The Steiner family, who also helped to build Timberline Lodgein Oregon, built the cabin in 1930. Located under old an growth canopy,next to Zig Zag River and Still Creek, in Rhododendron on 1/4 acres ofprivate land, at the 1,500-foot elevation. We now have wifi. This is a non-smokingfacility. Ashtrays are provided outside on the covered back deck. Some pets are negotiable and require an additional fee.WE ARE PET FRIENDLY WITH A $100 FEE. PLEASE NOTE; IF YOUR PET IS A SERVICE ANIMAL OR A COMFORT PET, DO NOT FILL "CHECK THE BOX FOR PETS!" This terrific two-story home sits on the edge of Rhododendron and Brightwood and is conveniently located near many outdoor recreation options in the area.The spaceThe cabin sleeps up to six people comfortably and includes an updated, well-equipped kitchen. Our living room is the perfect relaxation and entertainment hub, featuring a 60-inch smart TV and a vintage turntable and receiver (with Bluetooth capability) with a stash of great records (bring your own if you want!). Upstairs, you’ll find the main bedroom with a queen bed, reading nook, balcony access and a desk for the work-from-home crowd. There is also a quaint bathroom and a bunkroom that features a single and full bed. Downstairs, there is plenty of space to hang your outdoor recreation gear to dry in the hallway, and you’ll find the third bedroom with a queen bed and nearby bathroom with shower. The living space is extended outside, featuring a deck with an outdoor table and BBQ grill just off the dining room, and a perfect space out back with ample outdoor seating and a gas fire pit to wind down your evening.Guest accessThe cabin is a standalone home that you’ll have to yourself. It is located in the Timberline Rim community, a neighborhood of homes primarily occupied by full-time residents and some nightly rentals. There are neighbors to each side of the cabin, with a street-facing front. There’s not a great deal of traffic, but traffic is audible at times. Our home offers ample free parking and a convenient horseshoe driveway for easy access, in and out.Other things to noteCentrally located in the Mount Hood Corridor, we are in close proximity to a wide variety of area outdoor attractions, and our home is a great place to relax after a day of activities and exploring. There are ample options for groceries and food in the area, including stores in Rhododendron, Brightwood and nearby Sandy. The oversized, fenced yard is under the forest canopy of towering pines, vine maples and lush ferns, providing cool spots for napping in the hammock, reading in the Adirondack chairs, playing yard games and relaxing around a fire. Bring food for the grill and a good book to take in the fresh mountain air.We are located at the gateway to Mount Hood - about an hour's drive from beautiful Portland, Oregon. This area is the perfect start from which to explore the many different areas of Mt. Hood with countless hiking trails, ski areas, and lakes to fish in. This cabin is just 12 miles away from the slopes of Ski Bowl, and 18 miles to Timberline Lodge. Small grocery stores, gas station, local restaurants and bars are all just a short drive away. Come prepared to relax and enjoy the beauty of the great Pacific Northwest.This 2-story cabin was built in 1930. While we have added modern touches throughout, the interior of the cabin boasts original hardwood floors, kitchen cabinets & counters. It offers 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, PLUS a detached 3rd bedroom in the backyard steps away from the main cabin. WiFi speed of 349+ mbps also makes this a great place from which to work remotely. The living area has a cozy gas fireplace for winter snuggling, and small dining area with seating for 6. Relax while reading a book, watching a movie, or playing a board game the whole family will enjoy. Downstairs living/dining area does not have window coverings.The original 1930 kitchen cabinets and counters are complimented with a modern refrigerator, microwave, stove/oven, and dishwasher. This fully appointed kitchen is equipped to prepare whatever meals you decide to create. There is also a small 2-person breakfast bar in the kitchen. Bathroom has heated tile floors, one small vintage sink that is original from 1930, and full-size tub/shower combo with a detachable shower head that we find very helpful when bathing the kids. While the bottom pane of the bathroom window is frosted, there is no window covering on the top half of the bathroom window that looks out to the private, forested backyard. Master Bedroom: This room occupies the entire attic.Guests must be able to comfortably climb and descend a flight of stairs to access this bedroom. *This staircase and railing are not safe for young children.*There is no door that closes this attic bedroom off from the downstairs of the house.Queen bed with memory foam mattress at one end of the room.The other end of the room has a small sitting area with a TV and fold out twin-sized mattress.There is also WiFi throughout the master bedroom.2nd Bedroom (Kids’ Bedroom):Downstairs Twin over twin bunkbed with memory foam mattresses (please no adults on the top bunk)No TV provided in bedroom. There is WiFi if you would like to watch television on a personal device.3rd Bedroom (Detached): This bedroom is located in the backyard, detached from the main cabin. Hiking, fishing, skiing are only minutes away!The Space:*** In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, we want to assure our guests of our extremely thorough cleaning regiment. All frequently touched surfaces (counters, doorknobs, switches, handles, toilets, remotes, etc) are cleaned with an EPA registered disinfectant and all linens/towels are washed in hot water.***Carefully curated and thoughtfully designed, this little cabin is decorated with art and furniture from local artisans. The cabin has an open floor plan with an extra cozy sleeping loft equipped with a queen sized bed, comfy reading chair and a TV for watching movies. The living room has a comfortable plush sofa and perfect views while lounging by the wood-burning stove. The kitchenette offers you everything you need to dine-in — an electric oven/range, toaster, and coffee maker. The outside space features a large outdoor fire pit with beautiful views of the forest and ZigZag mountain.For groups with three guests -- additional linens, pillows and blankets will be provided upon request for the sofa (not a pull-out, but comfy to sleep on -- great option for those traveling with children). Also, in the summer months, there is plenty of room to pitch a tent outdoors.***Please note -- The drive up from the road to the cabin is steep. You WILL need an AWD or 4WD to get to the top in a vehicle (we have a VW Tiguan and make it up fine). If you have a 2WD car, there will be a cargo sled to haul your belongings up the hill. It's approximately 200 ft. from the road.**We will provide wood for one night. Additional wood can be purchased at the Thriftway or Mt. Hood Grocery, both are one mile down the road.*There is a steep loft ladder that leads to the bedroom.
