I am a Hyatt Globalist and recently stayed at the Park Hyatt, Jakarta. I really wanted to love this hotel; the visual ambience was elegant, sophisticated, and calming; staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the breakfast was great, and the Japanese restaurant was wonderful. So why, have I rated the hotel as Terrible? The fundamental failing of this hotel -for which it could not compensate not mater how great the service, internal visual ambience, and food quality- was the terrible, almost non-existent insulation from outside noise. Let me explain. Noise pollution in Jakarta arises from two sources: traffic and mosques. Large amounts of traffic noise including from very noisy motorbikes engulfs the hotel at almost all times of the day and night. And, unlike the Middle East where I have lived and where in my experience suggests that prayer times are broadcast at defined times for several minutes, close the the Park Hyatt, Jakarta, the mosque announces prayers then seems to allow the congregation to wailing shout over the loud speakers for hours. The multi hour sessions start from about 0340 and continues through to late night. Any respectable hotel would in its design phase, assess the external noise pollution then choose materials that would silence the extreme noise pollution. in this case either the designers failed to do this or substandard materials were sourced. Either, one cannot escape the near constant din of traffic ands mosques. And so, for this reason and sadly, I recommend you stay only if you love the aforementioned nose in your room.
