賽利卡藝術旅館

We had a great experience staying in the former prison. Our room had split level beds and bars on the door, and was very comfortable, with a view over Metelkova from the window. The staff were very friendly at check in, and there was a really nice bar, with decent Slovenian craft beer, and delicious pizzas, and an outside terrace with deckchairs and hammocks. Breakfast was ok, not the best selection, but there is a Lidl 5 minutes away with fresh pastries etc, so we went there. The location is ideal, 10 minutes from the bus and train stations, and a 15 minute walk to the Dragon Bridge in central Ljubljana. I also have to say that the shared bathrooms were cleaned frequently and had really hot, powerful showers.

Wonderful stay in an unique place. Located in the “alternative” part of town in a remodeled prison. Lots of character, friendly staff, great breakfasts provided and serves all ages! Easy walk in to old town.

We had a really bad experience. We stayed for one night, and there was a group of high school teenagers staying on the same floor as us. They were REALLY loud, banging doors, running in the corridor, screaming in the night, the afternoon, the morning. We stay in hostels to meet other travelers and the average age was like 15. They told us at the front desk that they were often groups staying at the hostel (??) We could barely sleep because of the noise. The walls are paper thin which is kind of what you expect staying in hostels, but this time the noise was beyond measure, even with earplugs. Also, the website says there is air conditionning in the rooms, but they should precise that it’s working only when they want it to (summer I guess). But even though it’s not technically summer, at the end of May, it was 30degrees outside, and the thermostat indicated 35 in our room. It was a sauna. Plus, the bed is at the top of the room (for the cells), so of course it only gets hotter as you go up. We paid 80 euros for a room where we could barely sleep and they did not offer any kind of compensation. The only reasons I gave two stars were for the two really nice receptionnists at the front desk yesterday night (may 30th) and this morning (may 31st). Shared bathroom is clean and well-amenaged. Breakfast was good also, you have severeal choices. I am not really the type to complain, but this was just disappointing. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend and I would definitely stay elsewhere if I’m ever back in Ljubljana.

Het idee om een oude gevangenis te veranderen in een hostel is zeer tof! Ik heb hier 1 dag verbleven samen met mijn klas op onze buitenlandse schoolreis. De check-in was vlotjes en het personeel was heel behulpzaam maar toen we naar de kamers gingen was het een beetje minder, de kamers waren kleiner dan op de foto’s en de badkamer was ook klein maar doenbaar. Er waren ook handdoeken aanwezig maar we moesten die bij het uitrugbrengen naar de receptie. Het ontbijt was niet uitgebreid maar prima. De locatie was eigenlijk super, op 2minuten stap-afstand van de stad Ljubljana. Ik zou dit hotel toch eerder afraden en een hostel kiezen met een normaal concept.

Persoonlijk vond ik dit geen aangenaam hotel, wij hebben dit gedaan met school maar zelf zou ik hier niet voor kiezen. De kamer voor 2 is heel erg klein, ik kon mijn valies niet openleggen. Er is een wit gordijn dus er is altijd licht. Ook moet je je bed zelf op maken. Het ontbijt was wel lekker, daar valt niet over te klagen. Het hotel ligt goed gelegen dus je bent maar 10 minuten verwijderd van Ljubljana, super!
