Residence Inn Brownsville

Checked in 6/9/2022. The hotel smells damp. They have fans that are used to dry carpet after a water break running in the lobby and hall. They also have an window AC unit in the meeting room. My room, 115, smelled musty and I have been killing gnat's during my stay. Last night after dinner when I got back to the room, 8:00, my room was 75 degrees. The maintenance man to the room. After one hour he said the AC was fixed. While the temp did go down, it never got cool. Today I was out the door at, looking forward to a shower, the room was 75 degrees. Two maintenance men were sent. An hour later they said the issue was fixed, so far so good. I went to talk to the manager about the situation. His response was that the issue was fixed and to call him iif there was another problem. No I'm sorry what can I do for you. No, let me move you to a new room. No offer of points for my troubles. His attitude was like I was bothering him.

Definitely an average stay. Some good things some bad things. Not sure they'd be able to fix any of these things without a major renovation. My room, 318, was large but very damp inside despite the A/C running. The A/C system (there were two) worked marginally. There was a window unit that runs constantly - it's never able to reach it's desired temp because it's undersized for the room. The room A/C blows out warm air (hence the window unit). Instead of fixing the A/C in the room, they bandaid it with a window unit. There's some presence of mold. The room smells of it and the table next to the TV stand has visible water damage. The shower head was absolutely gross - I actually asked for this to be cleaned because I didn't feel clean after a shower. After coming back to my room that evening, it didn't look any different even though I was told that maintenance would take care of it in the morning. Now on to the bright spots from this stay: the breakfast and the staff. Very friendly front desk staff and kitchen staff were very helpful. Breakfast varied each day with the main items being the same. It would be nice to see more fresh fruit options but I get it that it's quick breakfast option. Parking was never an issue. For security, you have to use your room key to access the main doors after 11pm, I think. Lots of airline employees stay here from what I've seen.

This is my second review, yes, but I stayed again recently. The quality and ambience of the customer service you receive at this property hasn't changed - still stellar and unmatched in the vicinity. They are never rude, always friendly and willing to help you if the can. This is one of the things that makes this hotel stick out. The rooms are always very clean and don't make you feel "cringy" when you walk through the door. There are a myriad of restaurants nearby with a shopping mall on the other side of the Expressway. It's one of the best places to stay in Brownsville, I would say the second best is their sister property next door at the Courtyard. Even among the various Marriott's I have stayed in around the country, they rise and shine well above the rest in terms of just the way your are pleasantly and noticeably treated. If there was any cons to this place, it's just some of the rooms facing the Expressway have some noise level to them. I'm a pretty light sleeper is the only reason I mention it, if you are a light sleeper as well, request a room that faces away from the Expressway. Oh, and the breakfast! It's not just pastries and coffee. It's fresh eggs, sausage or some other meat and potatoes. The breakfast buffet stands well above anything else in the region. They also still have dinner served 3 nights per week, I think it's Monday-Wednesday. I've been there a few times when dinner was served and it's quite good. Even to the point of serving beer and wine and it's all complimentary. You won't be disappointed staying at this hotel!
