The Trailsman Lodge was way better than I expected based on some of the recent negative reviews. I spent 3 wonderful nights here exploring Baddeck, the Cabot Trail and Cape Breton island; the reviewer who claimed they couldn't see the lake from a lake view room must've arrived and left in the dark : you couldn't be any closer to the lake, and even if you can't see it from your room, it's right outside at breakfast. At this time of year, the many geese had numerous cute little babies to look at on the lawn that gently slopes down from the deck to the lake, which is beautiful. The room itself was quiet and comfortable, with two queen beds, a couple of lovely armchairs and some outside red chairs on the deck overlooking the views. It has all the normal facilities you'd expect, such as large fridge, coffee machine, lots of wardrobe hanging space, ironing board, large flatscreen TV etc. The bathroom was beautifully tiled, with fabulous shower pressure, a hair dryer and plenty of room around the washbasin for your toiletries. Maybe this is a seasonal thing: breakfast was table service, so you could order what you wanted and it was brought to you : delicious banana cake and fruits, as well as bacon, sausage, toasts, hashbrowns and the best scrambled eggs I had during a 12 day trip around NS,NB & PEI. There was also cereals and choices of coffee and juice. So, absolutely no complaints or issues at all : I would happily stay here again!

We booked because of the reviews. What I should have noted was the dates of the reviews. Hardly any good current reviews. The only good point is the view - it was wonderful. The pictures online are not current - the place needs an overhaul - showing its age. The rooms were clean, the A/C worked. We didn’t realize how far away the Inn was from everything. However having a ‘tuck shop’ downstairs, under the rooms is not ok. This store/beer store is not just for those staying at the Inn, but serves the entire community - residents and campers….. needless to say the traffic was constant - we were not prepared to sit and enjoy the view (for 5 days) with traffic rolling by non-stop right in front of us - car doors slamming, cars left running, store door slamming every time someone goes in or out. We checked in at 3:00 and checked out at 4:30. Very disappointed. We were charged for 2 nights. 1 was for the day we checked in - and the 2nd was for giving less than 48 hours notice for cancelling. When I emailed to say I was disappointed that they would charge for 2 days (we are seniors on fixed income/and first real trip since COVID), the owner replied “thanks for taking food off my table”. RUDE! Luckily we found a lovely place to stay in Baddeck.

Rooms are spacious with table and two chairs, fridge and even a microwave. Booked through Expedia and was pleasantly surprised. Will definitely stay again. The motel was busy with travellers - a great stop over. Audrey was accommodating and provided information about the better local eateries and bakeries. Ate at a restaurant with a bakery approx a two minute drive. The haddock was delicious. Spouse said the lemon meringue pie was very good.
