beautiful place, super helpful and reliable staffs, very good hotel to enjoy snow. highly recommending. a must visit place.

It's a quaint inaccessible place with dark corridors, visible plumbing and rooms that needed a makeover long, long ago. It is only reachable by using the expensive Flåm Railway, or walking or riding 20 kilometres. It was originally built as a sanatorium in 1896, but it was never used for its intended purpose. Instead, it became popular as a hotel because of the Bergen Railway. After the Bergen Railway was opened in 1909, and especially after the Flåm Railway was connected with the Bergen Railway in 1940 it became a go to destination but times, tastes and fortune change. My first impression; I thought I was in an old folks home. It's on different floor levels within so one goes up/down a few steps to get to different rooms. It's not for wheelchair users. We arrived here without any welcome as 'cash cows'. We were part of the Flåm £15O a head railway trip off as guests of Norwegian Prima. Our train guide walked us up a slope from the station, in the rain, into the hotel, on a wet dank afternoon, only to tell us to go down two floors inside, for rather poor - tasting filtered cool coffee that sat on the tables in flasks. As we were cash cows other cash cows who were there from an earlier Flam train trip had blocked the narrow hallway which was annoying given the cold rain and wind as we were held outside jostling to get in. As we were a crowd we were put in an ugly nondescript room packed tight with fellow travellers. It resembled a school assembly hall with a public sector school dinner approach. So once we got into the downstairs room allocated for us we poured flasked coffee into tiny hotel style cold cups ending up with lukewarm lousy coffee which is unpleasant. If the (cold, limp, thin) waffles that sat plated on a top table were loving made fresh by the hotel's chef, from the finest flour, mountain butter and cream, treacly cane sugar from Mauritius and fresh free range double yolked XL eggs from happy chickens living their best life on a mountain side then sadly it isn't working as these potentially microwaved limp offerings had all the hallmarks of vegetable oil and powdered egg factory manufacturing. The raspberry jam (I expected cloudberry) and runny sour cream helped but honestly if you were served this stuff in a local cafe you'd be reluctant to pay and you wouldn't return. Given it's a £150 a head they have a cheek serving this rubbish. Having loitered here two hours and looked around the hotel and its surroundings to relieve boredom I was glad ours was a brief visit. If the food served to guests is anything like the poor quality we got it has little going for it except the location. We have no desire to return.

Quelle belle surprise que cette hôtel ! L’environnement est incroyable et l’hôtel en lui-même semble fait pour que l’on s’y sente bien en toutes circonstances. Les chambres sont cosy, il y a de multiples espaces communs, dont un avec billard et un autre avec des jeux de société, tous décorés différemment et super chaleureusement. Le personnel est adorable et la nourriture très bonne. Bref ce petit séjour à cet hôtel nous a mis du beaume au coeur, après avoir subi de multiples déconvenues en raison de la tempête Hans. On a adoré, nos enfants (17 et 22 ans) et nous-même !

Nel tragitto in treno Oslo-Bergen, a causa della partenza della Flamsbana l’indomani mattina, ci siamo fermate una notte in questo hotel, unico nella zona e scoperto in una situazione abbastanza di emergenza e fortuita solo attraverso la lettura di un diario di viaggio. È stata una bellissima scoperta ed una delle esperienze più belle del viaggio. Sembra una baita di montagna di commovente bellezza con la finestra della camera che incornicia tanto verde da sembrare un quadro. Arrivati alla piccola stazione di Myrdal, si percorre un sentiero sterrato che costeggia a destra la ferrovia con una camminata di circa 20 /25 minuti. Il percorso può non risultare agevolissimo trascinando il trolley, è preferibile lo zaino, o magari in situazioni climatiche non favorevolissime. Noi, benché con un trolley in due, grazie alla luce anche di sera ed un tempo mite e senza pioggia, abbiamo trovato anche il tragitto piacevole e molto caratteristico. Abbiamo prenotato direttamente sul sito dell’hotel e, attenendoci alle istruzioni, inviato una mail comunicando l’orario di arrivo. La comunicazione è stata di grande cortesia, oltre che costante e velocissima e poiché il nostro arrivo era previsto ben oltre l’orario di cena servita fino alle 21,00, ci hanno chiesto se gradissimo mangiare al nostro arrivo. Efficienti e gentili ci hanno tenuto in serbo la cena costituita da un piatto unico con salmone e carne grigliate, verdure, patate al forno e dei pezzi di focaccia bianca. Bellissimi gli spazi comuni, stanze arredare in maniera molto calda e confortevole con pezzi antichi, tra cui uno splendido tavolo da biliardo, ed un angolo dotato di acqua (caratteristica comune della Norvegia quella di avere ovunque l’acqua disponibile e gratuita), boiler con the e tisane di vario tipo. Ciliegina sulla torta, l’albergo è situato proprio sopra la stazione di Valahansen, successiva a Myrdal a tre minuti, dunque il mattino successivo abbiamo preso la Flamsbana di li senza necessità di percorrere la strada a ritroso. Consigliassimo, da ritornarci, anzi è stato proprio bello interrompere in questo modo il nostro percorso che, con il treno mattutino, anziché pomeridiano come il nostro, può essere compiuto tutto in giornata.

Muy aislado, muy relajante, habitaciones sencillas pero cómodas. Para llegar hay que ir a pie por un camino con subida y bajada alrededor de un kilómetro desde la estación de tren de Myrdal. El hotel tiene su propia estación para viajar en el tren de Fläm. En verano, hay una tirolina que discurre por encima del valle

The hotel itself and majestic surroundings are reason enough to visit Vatnahalsen, and the food - including daily afternoon waffles with thick cream and berry jam - is enough to keep you coming back. What really makes the hotel so special, though, is the hard-working, super-friendly staff. There doesn’t seem to be any need or want they have not anticipated or are willing to fulfil. Absolute gem of a place, can’t recommend it warmly enough!

Wonderful in every way! Great staff, comfortable room with a view. Cozy lounges with views and tea and coffee. Food was delicious. This is a charming sort of retro hotel. If you are looking for luxury resort you might be disappointed or pleasantly surprised! We loved it!

If you will have a chance to spend a couple of days in central Norway then I will reccommend you Vatnahalsen mountain hotel. Wild nature around fresh water lakes and many waterfalls. Not far from the hotel one can find the most popular bicycle road in Norway that was named as Rallarvegen.
