The visual aspect of the hotel was indeed palatial. It was beautiful. Beyond that, it was pretty awful, but some of that may have been simply because the heat was turned up to about 85 in the room, and there was no way to turn it down. Well, you could turn it down but you couldn’t set the temperature at a comfortable sleeping temperature. You could simply turn off the heat, but there is no way to cool the room without opening the windows. Of course, living on a noisy street at home, I was reluctant to open the window during the night for fear of noise. Big mistake. We were in the middle of nowhere and I’m sure it would’ve been quiet enough to sleep. Also in its eagerness to be palatial, everything was controlled by buttons on the wall that were lit up in red or green. But although someone showed us to our room and someone else came to bring a cot, no one bothered to explain the workings of the room. So after my attempts to close the curtains to no avail, I noticed a shade that was high up and realized that there was a button on the wall to close the shade. There were buttons for the lights and buttons for everything, and when we turned off the lights to sleep, all the buttons were so lit up that the room never got dark. It also took us until the next morning to realize that there was a shade for the bathroom. There was a separate toilet stall and a separate shower stall but if you wanted to simply brush your teeth or change your clothes, that part of the bathroom had a glass wall separating you from the sleeping area. Since our son was with us, we especially wanted some privacy for changing clothes and for being able to turn on the light in the bathroom at night without lighting up the whole room. The next morning we discovered that there was another shade there that we could have closed, but it certainly wasn’t obvious and no one told us. I think I had a few other complaints but luckily, I don’t remember them at this point! The breakfast was over the top with the amounts and variety of food at the buffet.
