蒙塔古金娜山林小屋(Kingna Lodge Montagu)

Best historical place and accomodation we ever where. Stunning hospitality by John. Sitting outside at the Veranda discussing things with a beer into the night....a good bar inside....we felt at home. Thanks very much, John! We loved staying with you!

We arrived at the lodge at 15:30. There was nobody to receive us. We paid in advance, but nobody told us that our reservation was canceled. We found out from a neighbour that the owner had a heartattack and was in intensive care in hospital. Later tourist information phoned him and had quite a long conversation with him (in intensive care?) My question is: does the whole business rely on the owner or does the business close without warning if the owner falls ill?

We stayed at this guesthouse for the second time, and again, it was fantastic. The building, loaded with history and memorabilia is worth being seen. To sleep in the room, where the former president of South Africa, Mr Nelson Mandela, stayed, has been a great experience. The house has also modern amenities as a secluded pool. Last to mention is the host, John, who cares in every respect for his guests, beginning with a very warm welcome, advices for tours, recommendations and reservations for dinner, to the farewell. If we visit Cape Town next time, we deliberately will make a visit to Montague and Kingna Lodge.

Kingna Lodge is a stunningly decorated Victorian home on the main street of Montagu. Each room had its own charming bathroom and period furniture. The room has a heater and extra blanket, which is needed in autumn as it gets nippy in the evenings, plus the bed has a top sheet, always a nice touch. Loadshedding means no power but the rooms have long-life bulbs and the oil lamps in the hallway bring back the glory days of this magnificent house. John is an excellent host and will organise your evening dinner bookings – highly recommend the Montagu Country Hotel and The Victorian for dinner and the Rambling Rose for breakfast. If you ask John, he will give you a tour of the private rooms in the house and the history, including Nelson Mandela’s visit. Have a G&T in the bar or sit on the veranda and watch the sunset reflected off the mountains. John is an excellent host who sorts out little problems immediately

Lovely place on a quiet street close to a nice Pizzeria! A very accommodating host John welcomed us and had a sundowner with us. Parking was covered and inside the property. We would definitely recommend Kingna Lodge!

A home from home, lovely place to stay. John and Joy make you feel so welcome. Location was perfect. Loved the history of the house and the garden. The swimming pool amazing to cool off in the hot weather.

Beautiful house with lovely ambiance. Good location and helpful info from owner. Welcome beer and wine on arrival which was very welcome. We didn’t use the pool as it was too cold, but it looked very nice
