Sunwing Makrigialos Beach

It took 2.5 hours to get from the airport to the hotel (Sunwing family resort). The bus (transfer) had air conditioning on the lowest, barely noticeable setting, so it was hot and stuffy inside, and it was more than +37 C degrees outside. The hotel representatives met people outside +37C, made them line up in the heat to explain where the room was. They (the reception) spoke to me in Swedish without asking if I understood it. Rom: We were given a room in the basement, overlooking the warehouse. The floors in the room were wet so it was hard to breathe in the room until they turned on the noisy air conditioner (probably from the last century, at least this one). The bottles of gel and shampoo in the shower were empty. My child was in Greece for the first time and asked me not to come here again, but to go home straight away. This is called reality🤷‍♀️

The hotel is really Swedish-oriented. Many times the guided sets were mostly in Swedish and something in English. Most of the customers were Swedish, so it felt like you had come to Sweden for a beach vacation and not in Greece. Which was really a shame. Definitely a place suitable for families and theres programs/activities from babies to teenagers. I do not recommend the hotel for a couple's holiday. The sheets are not automatically changed from time to time and you have to put them in the basket yourself. I have paid for the hotel and its room service, it is not the customer's job to remove the sheets. When we askes about it, it was said that this is the hotel consept and in our room theres no cleaning on fridays and sundays. We have only 5 cleanings. Theres no information about that either. Otherwise the room is comfortable and the pool area as well, and the staff is friendly. The pool is only open from 10 am to 6 pm, which is a bit strange when the sun rises early in the morning and sets at 8 pm. The hotel itself is a bit confusing because of the different sections, there could be more signs. Plus things are also the aurobic class, the Market and the nearby beach where a sun lounger costs €5. Breakfast is wide. Thought dont recommend th burger from the bar, it was like chewing gum. Location is far from the airport and the town is quiet. I do recommend to eat at Gabbiano, next to the hotel.

This hotel is excellent for kids. They loved the concept and we will using the concept again, but in some other place. But the hotel - ving has bought a cheap shabby hotel. We had lollo and bernie suite and the smell that was waiting for us when we entered the corridor to get to our rooms was horrible - damp smell. AC is not good either, dampness in the room at all times. Nothing would dry in the room - just needed to put it out in order to dry. Was afraid actually to get legionella as it reminded me India where I had the same issue with hotel (damp) but lucikly here they just had the damp problem and not the bacteria. The values in Ac did neither matter anything, it just worked at standy level anyways. Not a 4 star hotel in my mind. Felt like old 60 style hotel not renovated since. However - all stars for kids entertainment. It was superb, amazing for families with kids (but the same concept you have also in other hotels that maybe are better). However our kids fell in love with lollo and bernie their new heros. And they loves the evening entertainment. Super fine beaches as well, even though it is super stormy in Crete in July, didnt know that. 2 out of our days were ruined by wind storm (could almost not go out) and there were heavy winds rest of the days as well. Food - absolutely nothing special, gets your belly full and you wont get sick but you dont go there to get a culinary experience. All in all - it was amazing holiday for kids and average one for grown ups. But since the kids are happy, are we also happy. However - since the same concept is in many hotels we would try to use some newer establishment next time. For the grown ups nice hotel rooms and not humid rooms (since outside was not humid) are important. Food we can live for a week, even though since it is a holiday, nice food would be a plus as well.
