Wonderful mountain gîte in the small Berber village of Tizi Oussem. Houssain welcomed us in his gîte after a long hiking day with tea and freshly baked bread. He checked in on us all throughout the day to make sure we had everything we needed and chatted with us about the nearby hiking trails, the devastation of the earthquake and life in this small Berber community. Dinner - cooked by his wife - was delicious and more than plentiful. And of course the teapot seemed to be re-filling itself continuously. The gîte is surprisingly comfortable for such a remote location. Running warm(-ish) water, western toilet, WiFi and very comfortable beds. The best though is the balcony with an incredible view over the Assif n’Ouissadene valley. Well, second best after the kind and warm treatment of Houssain. And while of course some things might not be up to the standard you are used to from Western Europe, Gîte Tadarin is a fantastic opportunity to experience life in a Berber village and get a glimpse into this wonderful culture. I wouldn’t change a thing and I’ll definitely stay here again when trekking in Toubkal National Park.
