Interesting and convivial hosts made for our New Year's Eve stay an enjoyable and memorable experience. We stayed in the rather snug but quaint Shepherd room with its balcony overlooking the magnificent specimen trees in the beautiful surrounding gardens. The gardens were full of bird song, especially the tuneful bellbird. The owners hosted a delightful early evening drinks and canapes gathering of guests in the garden and even took some photographs of the group and individually. It was a good mixture of fun and laughter amongst the various international clientele. We relaxed in the spacious and interesting sitting room which was crammed full with an eclectic mix of antiques and fine bone English china and glassware which captured our imagination and attention. The breakfast choice was sensational with a healthy option and plentiful portions. A great time all-in-all, to ring in the New Year in a private and peaceful setting close to all of the amenities of the impressive township of Akaroa.
