room was fine, pool is a joke and the service is horrendously bad. the level of incompetence and sheer ignorance displayed by the receptionist is a masterclass all on its own. when asked for something cold to drink in the afternoon, she just told me no! restaurant closed until 6 pm. only after pointing out that a remote resort with the next shop a mile away must offer some cold refreshment, even if the staff is having a nap, she remembered that the hotel does indeed have a vending machine for the dehydrating guests - just 5 meters from her reception! placed strategically just out of sight for the guests, which seem to have abondened the place years ago and for good reason. when I left the next morning to another hotel, she wasn't sure if she could call a taxi. I explained if she can't, I need to use the room phone to call out of the hotel, but that wasn't possible either. gladly I made it out, but if this is the standard of service, I'm not surprised I didn't see more guests than inside the Overlook Hotel under Jack's management.
