The sensorial qualities of architectural space have long been the subject of phenomenological exploration. But too often when architects or designers talk about sensory engagements with space, the person doing the sensing is conceived through normative, ableist notions of a body with certain preconceived perceptual capacities. As Jos Boys has written: ‘Architectural phenomenology makes certain kinds of bodies obvious and unproblematic, emphasizing sensuality and immediacy of experience while simultaneously assuming only “normal” (unencumbered, mobile, independent) subjects who have archetypical responses to space and objects’. But what happens when, as Boys suggests, we turn this on its head, and start to think about sensing space through a diversity of bodies with different sensory acuities and hence experiences? How might such a reversal, inspired by critical disabilities studies, enrich how we think about such sensory engagements, enhancing our multisensory experience of space? Organised by CCW’s Interior Futures Practices Research Hub, ‘Sensing Space Differently’ brings together artists, performers and designers who offer diverse ways of sensing and navigating space, offering exemplars of inclusivity. The event concludes with a keynote presentation from Professor Ken Wilder and Dr Aaron McPeake, co-investigators on the AHRC funded project ‘Beyond the Visual: Blindness and Expanded Sculpture’.

本來覺得坐摩天輪特俗，但倫敦眼讓我打臉了！膠囊艙升到最高點時，突然明白為什麼英國人愛聊天氣&mdash;&mdash;泰晤士河、大本鐘和碎片大廈在陽光下閃閃發光的樣子，確實每天都不一樣。落地後發現照片全拍成玻璃反光的朦朧美，算了，留點遺憾才真實。
