“Out of the Mouth of Babes: A Tribute to the Rising Stars of Jazz at Aretha's Jazz Café
Join us for an unforgettable evening of music, culture, and legacy as Out of the Mouth of Babes: A Tribute to the Rising Stars of Jazz takes center stage at the renowned Aretha's Jazz Café on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM.
This special event shines a spotlight on the next generation of jazz talent, paying homage to the pioneers who shaped the art form. Performed entirely by a talented cast of youth artists, the show brings to life the timeless music of jazz legends, including Hazel Scott, Lena Horne, Sarah Vaughan, Cab Calloway, and Etta James, alongside the poetic brilliance of Langston Hughes.
The evening promises a celebration of artistry and storytelling, featuring live performances of beloved classics such as Stormy Weather, At Last, Minnie the Moocher, God Bless the Child, and many more. Interwoven with monologues, poetry, and live instrumentation, the production creates a moving tribute to the legacy of jazz and its enduring impact. Accompanied by Music Director Pamela Wise.

Adriana Acosta as Hazel Scott
Jayla as Lena Horne (also serving as the evening’s MC)
Daijon performing the poetry of Langston Hughes, including Let America Be America
Jailyn Simone Miller as Sarah Vaughan
DeMarco Wilson-Ashley as Cab Calloway
Bella Ashley as Etta James Jerimiah Sims as Nat King Cole
Produced by Detroit jazz luminary Sky Covington and Nicole Comer / Lady Love™, Out of the Mouth of Babes showcases not only incredible talent but also the rich history of jazz and its profound cultural significance.
