Create an anthropomorphic fruit out of clay with guest artist Thomas Haskell.
Based on Haskell’s Consuming Carribean series, this workshop will blend exotic fruit and human forms to create intriguing ceramic sculptures. Attendees will incorporate human anatomical elements into whimsical versions of their own favourite fruits.
During the workshop Thomas will teach techniques for hand-building ceramic fruits. He encourages attendees to incorporate their own cultural ties through personal interpretations of the project
Each ticket includes 1 clay item that will be kiln-fired in our studio. Items are foodsafe, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe.
During the workshop, 
please photograph your artwork
 so you can identify it when it comes out of the kiln. Thank you!
About Gather at the Gallery
Gather at the Gallery is an event presented twice a month specifically for the 55+ community. This program provides opportunities to express your own creativity through a variety of hands on workshops, meet artists and hear their stories, or preview new exhibitions. Gather at the Gallery is generously sponsored by the Governemnt of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program.

After the Workshop + Pickup
The ceramic artworks will be fired in a kiln at the gallery. Approximately 4 weeks after the workshop, you will receive an email when they are ready to be picked up. You can also check our website

 to see if your pieces are ready to be picked up.
About Thomas Haskell
Haskell was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, coming to Canada to study visual arts at York University, and earning a Master’s degree in Art, Media, and Design at OCADU. Haskell is a self-taught ceramicist, whose work with polymer- and oil-based clays in childhood incited his work in ceramics.Haskell’s studio practice is based in ceramic sculpture, navigating issues of queerness, folklore, Trinidadian carnival, and intersectional selfhood. Utilizing clay as an intimate and immediate medium for capturing human gesture, Haskell seeks to contemporize traditional elements of Carnival/Mas from his heritage in relation to the socio-political climates of today. Haskell captures the ephemeral qualities of Mas to expand notions of what Mas/Carnival can mean to various communities, including education, solidarity, and consolidation of community.
In 2023 Haskell competed in CBC’s The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down, where he showcased his technical skills as well as creativity alongside Canada’s top potters.
