Inspired by our stunning coastal location, you wil learn speed sketching skills with Mark, also known as the Edinburgh Sketcher. From close up studies of shells and plant life to sea views out to Bass Rock, you will create a number of drawings in ink and watercolour. All materials supplied. This event is suitable for adults and older children. What will we provide? All materials necessary for the session. What do I need to bring? Clothing appropriate for the weather outside, a drink, any medication you may need, a mobile phone, sun protection (good weather days). Accessibility This session will start and end on the grassy area next to the Scottish Seabird Centre (in front of the Learning Hub) and take participants on short walks across paths and sandy beach to different close by locations. Join Mark Kirkham, also known as EdinburghSketcher, for a captivating sketching workshop by the seaside in North Berwick. Discover the art of quickly capturing the world with ink and watercolours as you explore the stunning East Lothian views. Mark, an acclaimed ink and watercolour artist, will share his tips and techniques that he has developed over a decade of sketching around Edinburgh. The workshop begins at the Scottish Seabird Centre, a four-star visitor attraction with an award-winning Discovery Centre, located on Harbour Terrace in North Berwick. Mark will start by teaching you how to use ink pens and watercolour washes to draw shells and other items found on the shore. Then, you will have the opportunity to walk around the harbour and create a detailed vista in a 30-minute session. Throughout the tour, Mark will cover various aspects of sketching, including details, shading, depth, and composition. The exercises will range from 5-minute warm-ups to a 30-minute masterpiece. All materials are included in the ticket price, and the workshop is suitable for all levels, from beginners to those interested in Mark's unique speed-sketching style. Please come prepared for the weather, as this is an outdoor walking and sketching tour. Although Mark will continue in light rain, extreme weather conditions will result in an indoor workshop using beach items and photographs. The minimum age for participants is 8 years old, and anyone aged 8-15 must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. What’s for Snack? is an interactive live puppet show with Craig the Crab. Young visitors will be asked to help Craig who has eaten some marine litter by mistake. He will be joined by some of his seaside friends who will try to help him get rid of his sore tummy. This is a fun, informal show aimed at young children 2+. It will introduce them to different kinds of marine animals and some of the challenges they face out in the ocean. Tickets Adult tickets are £2.50 and children go free.
