Take your drawing further on this four-week intermediate drawing course with tutor Franca Westaway, starting on Saturday 10 May. The course will offer opportunities to work on and develop your analytical eye, technical and expressive drawing skills in a variety of media and your own lines of creative enquiry. Taking a lead from the work of other artists we will use a range of dry, wet and mixed media to explore drawn responses. Participants will be encouraged to reflect upon drawn artworks and their own working process, with the intention of opening to the potentially endless possibilities of exploring the world that drawing can offer. N1SCO Racing! We love the whole N1SCO racing scene. The atmosphere, the inclusivity and the fun racing for all standards of paddler. The only thing we don't like is that they're missing from the race calendar. To that end, we're putting on our own N1SCO race, with the same format. That means a day on the water with; A technical race A 5km distance race Sprint heats (out and back with a single turn) Initial tickets will be for paddlers with their own N1SCO board. Country Folk - Album Launch Show Come join us at the Burton Road Methodist Church on Friday, January 17th, 2025, for a night of live music and celebration to mark the release of musician and songwriter Ben Atkinson's new album, Country Folk! Several years in the making, Ben's new album features songs and stories which focus on life, becoming a new father, and reflecting on love and loss in a world that seems in a constant state of flux, politically, socially and environmentally. The album is about all these things, but it's also about getting back to the basics of what really matters and the importance of music as a tool which brings us together. Join local printmakers Carolyn Murphy and Cate Gibson in this Linocut Print Workshop, a fun evening learning how to create a linocut print by hand in simple steps. Over the course of the class you’ll practice some techniques before creating a colour linocut, carving the lino to your own design andprinting your linocut onto paper. Your tutors Carolyn Murphy and Cate Gibson are local artists and printmakers, who have been linocut printmaking for over 10 years. Find them on Instagram @carolynmurphyprintmaker and @cate_gibson7. What should I bring? Materials and aprons are provided but we need you to bring an idea or two for a linocut design. Linocut printing can be messy - we use water-based ink which is washable and Sett does have aprons for you to use, but we'd recommend you wear clothes you don't mind getting messy in. What materials and equipment are provided? You will receive a small piece of lino / vinyl to practice cutting, as well as another piece of lino / vinyl (15 x 10 cm in size) to create your design. You will be able to borrow Carolyn & Cate's lino cutting tools to cut lino during the workshop. We will be printing by hand, so you will learn how to print lino without using a printing press. Water-based ink and paper will also be provided. Are there minimum age requirements for the workshop? You need to be aged 18 or over for this workshop.
