This is a space to be curious and playful and explore tools to free up, get out of our own way and embrace the unique creativity that we all possess. If you've ever said i can't draw or i'm not creative then this is for you too! So many of us have absorbed the idea that art should look a certain way–that there is somehow a right and a wrong when it comes to creativity. Our path to expression becomes clear when we stop trying to create in the way we think we are “supposed” to and start getting in touch with what naturally flows through us if we allow it. Charcoal and newsprint paper will be available by donation on the day. Feel free to bring your own art supplies! However, please no oil paints or spray paints. Suggested donation for this event is £10 – £15. There are costs involved to run this event and your contributions help to make this possible, however no-one will be turned away for lack of funds. Bharatanatyam is a classical dance style from Tamil Nadu, South India. It is believed to have originated around the 2nd century B.C as a devotional art performed in the ancient temples of India. Today this art form has moved to the stage and contributed vastly in popularizing Indian culture around the world. The main features of Bharatanatyam are its execution of intricate rhythmic patterns in foot movements, its variety of hand gestures and associated meanings, sculpturesque poses and its expressive eye movements. This class is open for all ages and abilities where exercises and routines can be adapted to different levels of intensity. We will start class with a gentle warm up based on Yoga and Pilates, followed by basing postures and movements and we will finish with an easy choreography and a little introduction to the theory and philosophy behind this beautiful dance form. *Please note that the Studio space is not fully accessible.
