When you're doing a scene, have you ever thought to yourself I loved those characters, I wish we could've spent more time discovering them ? This workshop teaches you to slow down, take in your partners, and discover your world together. Bio TJ & Wendy are the founders of Off the Cuff Comedy Improvisation in Cedar City, Utah. As it is fondly known, OTC Comedy celebrated twenty years this past January. TJ & Wendy have performed in improv festivals all over the world on their teams Pawn Takes Queen and Tapestry. They have both been studying and performing improv for over 25 years and have learned from some of the greatest teachers the art form has to offer. TJ & Wendy co-founded the Red Rocks Improv Festival which has run for almost 15 years. Workshop In this workshop, you’ll practice making specific emotional choices that are grounded in reality, and experiment with unexpected emotional responses that will make scenes interesting and engaging from the top. We’ll also play with varying tones in order to make your shows more dynamic. Bio Suzi Barrett has been improvising for over 25 years, and teaching improv for 20. A student of iO, The Second City, and UCB, she spent 3 years in Amsterdam performing with Boom Chicago before finally landing in Los Angeles. At UCB LA, she’s a member of Sentimental Lady and ASSSSCAT, and on the indie scene she plays with four teams, including Paper with Matt Walsh. She’s taught all levels at UCB— including advanced study— and regularly teaches internationally. She tours with Ben Schwartz & Friends and Holy Shit Improv, is a frequent guest on Comedy Bang Bang, and hosts the popular improv podcast Yes Also. On TV, she was a series regular on the half-improvised sitcom Just Roll With It, and can also be seen on After Midnight, Drunk History, and How I Met Your Mother. Workshop The hardest part of improv is not the comedy. It's making up live theater on your feet, with a partner, without a script. Does my partner get what I'm doing? Are we making any sense? In this workshop, we will work on simple ways to build scenes together, and clearly communicate what we think is funny to our scene partners and the audience. Plus, it will be fun! Not like school at all! Bio Ryan Rosenberg is an improviser, writer, and podcaster from Los Angeles. He studied at the Upright Citizens Brigade, where he improvises with Asssscat and Big Grande, who also had a long running sketch show by the same name. After their sketch show, Ryan and Big Grande moved into podcasting, with The Teachers’ Lounge (biggrandewebsite.com), a character based comedy about four nasty teachers who get real on the pod while the kids aren’t around. Ryan also hosts the improvised comedy podcast ManDogPod with Dan Lippert, The Greatest Conversation Ever with Payam Banifaz, and is the producer of Yes, Also, hosted by Suzi Barrett.
